Volunteering

Notice: A commercial background check is required of all chaperones and volunteers without one-on-one unsupervised or unrestricted access to students. This group is inclusive of student teachers, PTA and PTO officers, CAC officers, Booster club officers, field trip chaperones, and chaperones and volunteers who work with children in the presence of an approved AACPS representative.

Chaperones/volunteers need to have a fingerprint-supported background check:

- ALL overnight chaperones, including those on trips to the Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center.

- ALL chaperones or volunteers with one-on-one unrestricted access to students.

Chaperones and volunteers must pay the cost of the fingerprint-supported background check.

Note: This does not include chaperones who supervise groups of students (such as on a field trip to the zoo, for example).

In addition, everyone who applies to be a Volunteer/Chaperone for AACPS, upon approval, must view the Sexual Harassment/Child Abuse Training Video prior to the volunteer/chaperone having access to students. Failure to do so will result in a disapproval status for access until such time the video is viewed.
