Library Orientation Programme 

The Department of Library and Information Centre organizes Library Orientation Programme for the new entrants in the beginning of the academic year. The aim of this programme is to make the new members more familiar with the library services, resources, policies and facilities so that they can avail library services up to a great extent. Library also offers different training programme and workshops time to time. The orientation programme for the academic year 2024-25 was conducted on 14th, 15th and 16th November, 2024 for different classes. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. A.C.Wali, Principal on 14-11-2024. Dr. Manjunath Angadi, Librarian, welcomed and spoke about the progamme. Dr. Anand Indoor, Librarian (I/c), Mr. Kantesh Banalli, Assistant Professor, dept. of English  were present in the programme. 

Display of New Arrivals

The college library displays new arrivals as and when new books are procured to the library. There is a separate display table put in place in the library to display new arrivals. The dept. of Library and Information Centre displayed NEP books procured in the academic year 2023-24 on 25-04-2024 in the reading room of the library. All faculty members and many students visited the book exhibition. 

Competitive Books Exhibition

Competitive books exhibition is being conducted every year for the benefit of the students. The department of library and information centre organised the competitive books exhibition on December 9, 2024, showcasing a rich and diverse collection of competitive books. The main motto of the exhibition was to foster a love for reading among students and staff.  The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. A.C. Wali, principal, Smt. G.B.Ankalkoti Govt. first grade college, Shiggaon, through cutting the ribbon. The warm welcome was given by Dr. Anand Indoor, Librarian(I/c) and an introduction was given by Dr. Manjunath Angadi, Librarian. Dr. Ambilly Pillai, Co-ordinator, IQAC, spoke about the significance of knowledge in the present competitive World. Members of the library committee, all faculty members and many students attended the book exhibition programme. The Book Exhibition showcases an impressive collection of over 280 titles across diverse genres. 

World Books and Copyright Day

The World Book and Copyright Day is observed every year on April 23 to spread awareness about the benefits of reading books. The 2025 theme for World Book and Copyright Day is "The role of literature in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)".  The day is also dedicated to paying respect to renowned authors, including William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, who died on this day.  World Book and Copyright Day was observed on 24-04-2025 at the reading room of the college library. Dr. A. C. Wali, principal, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his speech, he emphasized how important books are in shaping knowledge, inspiring creativity, and encouraging critical thinking. He urged students and faculty members to embrace reading as a lifelong habit. Dr. Anand Indoor, Librarian (I/c) welcomed and an introduction was given by Dr. Manjunath Angadi, Librarian. Smt. Shubha Hiremath, Assistant Professor, shared her views on the benefits of reading books in personality development of students. Members of the library committee, all faculty and many students attended the programme. 

Librarians Day Celebration

National Librarians' Day is observed on 12th August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr S.R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), who is considered as father of library science in India. Dr. Ranganathan dedicated his entire life to library profession in India leaving a rich legacy.The National Librarian's Day was celebrated in the college library.  Dr. C. S. Kummur, Principal, offered a pooja. The faculty, staff and students were present on this formal celebration.  

Online Quiz Series

The department of Library & Information Centre is jointly organizing with the College Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) an intra college monthly online quiz series (2024-25) for students of Smt. G. B. Ankalkoti Govt. First Grade College, Shiggaon. The online quiz programme will be conducted through Google Forms at the end of every month. Along with current affairs of the current month, questions will be on one particular subject/topic, which is useful for competitive exams. The Online Quiz Series for the academic year 2023-24 was held for a total of 7 months on 7 different topics. In college annual day function which was conducted on 12-06-2024, Dr. C. S. Kummur, Principal, distributed certificates and prizes to the winners of the quiz competition.

Birthday Book Club

In honour of students'/faculty's' birthday, the library invites them to participate in our library's “Birthday Book Club”. This program involves donating a new/used (in good condition) book of their choice to the library to honour their birthday. As a thank, their picture will be displayed on library notice board and a letter of appreciation will be issued.
