I used GetResponse when I first started my business, and it saved me hours. I could manage email lists, design landing pages, and run sales funnels—all from one place. For busy entrepreneurs, it's a game changer.
GetResponse claims to be a “powerful yet simple tool for automating your marketing.” It’s designed for solo entrepreneurs, small teams, and growing businesses—just like mine. That immediately got my attention. A tool that promises to simplify automation and save time? I had to check it out.
I’ve used many email marketing platforms before—some were okay, but most made automation feel more complicated than helpful. I kept running into confusing workflows, bugs, or spending hours designing something that should’ve taken minutes. That’s when I started wondering: is there a better option out there?
💡 Enter GetResponse.
The platform offers a 30-day free trial with access to almost all features. You can also explore premium plans that include extras like webinar hosting, contact scoring, and advanced collaboration tools. But I didn’t want all the bells and whistles (yet). My main question was:
Can the basic GetResponse plan handle essential email and marketing automation—without wasting my time or money?
So, I gave it a try. I set up campaigns, tested the automation builder, and explored the dashboard to see if it truly makes marketing easier—or if it’s just another overhyped platform.
Here’s what I discovered… 👇
If you're serious about email marketing or building sales funnels, you've probably heard about GetResponse. But with so many plans and features, you're probably wondering: Is GetResponse worth it?
Let’s break it down in simple terms 👇
1. Free Plan – $0/month
This plan is great if you're just starting out. You don’t need a credit card, and you can manage up to 500 contacts. It includes unlimited newsletters, one landing page, the website builder, custom domains, and signup forms. However, automation features and autoresponders are not available.
2. Basic Plan – $15/month
With this plan, you can send unlimited emails and create unlimited landing pages and websites. You also get custom domains, signup forms, basic segmentation, and email scheduling. But here's the truth: if you’re looking to grow fast, this plan might feel limiting because it doesn’t include automation, webinars, or CRM tools.
3. Plus Plan – $49/month
This is where the real marketing power starts. You unlock automation workflows (up to 5), webinar hosting, CRM access, and advanced segmentation tools like contact scoring and tagging. This plan helps you build real connections and boost engagement with your list. If you want to scale your business, this is the plan to consider.
4. Professional Plan – $99/month
This plan gives you everything from the Plus plan — and more. You get unlimited automation workflows, paid webinars, push notifications, and advanced segmentation features. It’s designed for experienced marketers, agencies, or businesses with complex needs.
GetResponse charges based on the number of active contacts you have. So while $49/month for the Plus plan might sound reasonable for 1,000 subscribers, the price increases significantly as your list grows.
For example:
At 5,000 contacts, the monthly cost jumps by over 50%.
At 10,000 or more contacts, the price goes even higher.
The larger your email list, the more you’ll pay. That’s something to keep in mind as your business grows.
If you're planning ahead, GetResponse offers solid discounts when you pay in advance:
You can save 18% by paying annually.
You can save 30% by choosing a 2-year plan.
These discounts are bigger than what most competitors offer and can help keep your costs down if you're in it for the long run.
Let’s be honest — GetResponse isn’t the cheapest tool on the market. But if you’re serious about growing your business with automation, webinars, and advanced marketing tools, it’s absolutely worth it.
When I first signed up for the Basic plan, I quickly realized it wasn’t enough. It helped me test the waters, but to really move forward, I needed the automation and segmentation tools found in the Plus plan. That’s when things really started to work.
Compared to its competitors like AWeber, Mailchimp, and Campaign Monitor, GetResponse generally comes out ahead in value, especially for large lists. It charges only for active contacts (unlike Mailchimp, which includes unsubscribed users in your bill), and the feature set is more complete for growing businesses.
If you're comparing pricing:
GetResponse starts at $15/month for 1,000 subscribers.
AWeber and Campaign Monitor start around $29/month.
Mailchimp’s similar plan starts at $51.99/month.
Plus, GetResponse offers more automation, sales funnels, and webinar features — even in the mid-level plans.
Previously, GetResponse didn’t offer a true free plan. But now, they’ve launched a "Free-Forever" plan that gives you access to the basics without requiring a credit card. You can use email marketing, templates, a landing page builder, and a website builder — all for free as long as your contact list stays under 500.
However, you won’t have access to automation or autoresponders, and your emails will carry GetResponse branding. Still, it’s a smart way to start email marketing if you’re on a tight budget.
Here’s the truth:
GetResponse is affordable at the beginning, but it only becomes truly powerful when you unlock its higher-tier features.
You can start for free, but once you’re serious about scaling, the Plus or Professional plan gives you everything you need — from webinars to automation to segmentation. If your goal is to grow and automate your business, this platform delivers real value.
With the basic plan, GetResponse offers email marketing tools such as newsletters and autoresponders. It also includes visual automation workflows and conversion funnel necessities like social ads and e-commerce.
For example, you can set them up so that ...
Immediately after someone signs up for your contact list, they receive a welcome message from your business
one week later, they will receive a discount offer for some of your products or services
three weeks later, they get an invitation to follow you on social media.
And so on.
GetResponse's autoresponder functionality is an important selling point - the product provides some of the most comprehensive autoresponder features available.
You can use GetResponse autoresponder to send either time-based or action-based messages - time-based options include cycles like the example above, and action-based messages can be triggered by user actions or information, such as:
opens
clicks
subscriptions to particular lists
changes in contact preferences
completed transactions / goals
birthdays
changes in user data
In short, it is packed with automation features. Still, I was curious to find out if the features would be comparable to other professional automation tools I have used.
GetResponse can help you avoid the spam folder - most of the time
GetResponse offers a spam test feature that allows you to do a spam check at any time during the design process. Although my email address was spam, you'll see a list of issues if your campaign was too spammy. For example, a spam check alerted me that I had too many images and too little text, and encouraged me to change the sender's email address from Gmail to the agency's domain.
GetResponse automatically also shows you the results of the spam check on the main dashboard of the campaign. Since this is the campaign planning screen, this extra alert can help capture last-minute issues.
Interestingly, my test campaigns showed that GetResponse's spam check was not completely accurate. First, the good news: all my Gmail subscribers (about two-thirds of my list) received both of my emails in the main tab, which means my campaigns were not redirected to the Campaigns tab.
Now for the bad news: all my Outlook and Hotmail subscribers (the remaining third of my list) received both of my emails in the spam folder, which means the emails failed the spam.
If your list contains mostly Gmail subscribers, GetResponse can be a great way to avoid the junk folder. However, if you have a lot of subscribers who use other email providers, you may need to do a little extra work to warm up your list. As I learned later in the testing process, GetResponse has some helpful tips for getting into the subscriber's inbox.
GetResponse claims that the delivery rate is 99%, which is excellent. Still, I was curious if the delivery capability would be so high for my campaigns, especially as a new user.
I was happy to find that the delivery capacity was as strong as promised. The delivery rate was 100% for both of my test campaigns. All my contacts received the emails I sent, and none of the messages popped up.
Although I feel comfortable entrusting GetResponse to deliver my email campaigns, I want to invest more time in making sure I can avoid the spam folder for a wider range of subscribers.
Some email marketers prefer a platform with a large selection of templates, such as AWeber, which offers 700+ options. Still, when it comes to AWeber vs. GetResponse, I preferred the latter's smaller, yet better designed collection. GetResponse has more than 200 responsive templates, including categories for welcome email, e-commerce and other standard topics.
In addition to templates and blank layouts, GetResponse lets you save past campaigns as templates for future use. I found all the options easy to customize using GetResponse's drag-and-drop editor.
When you create an email on a laptop, it's easy to forget that it has to look good on a variety of devices. GetResponse lets you check previews side by side, so you can make sure your emails get the message across on both desktop and mobile devices.
One of the best parts of a marketing suite is that automation features can put daily tasks on autopilot.
GetResponse Marketing Automation Builder is one of the most comprehensive tools available to marketers looking to create simple and advanced automation.
The drag-and-drop marketing automation builder lets you create visual workflows to see the automation and customize each step as you go. You can create automation events based on the behavior of the contacts and then trigger actions based on selected conditions.
For example, if you want a particular email to be sent only if a contact clicks on a link in an email, all you have to do is create that sequence and condition using the visual automation builder:
With the workflow, you can also add a “trigger” into the workflow for events like:
new subscribers
email opens
clicks on links
abandoned carts
product purchases
product upgrades
URLs visited (i.e. pricing pages)
I was glad I did not have to spend time creating automations from scratch. They are organized into categories so you can easily find engagement workflows to reconnect with lost subscribers, promotional campaigns to share product launches, abandoned cart automations to encourage completed checkouts, and many more options.
I liked GetResponse's marketing automation workflow maps, which are easy to follow for each automation. The editor makes it very easy to change workflows. By clicking on any item, you can customize the actions or change the conditions to get the automation just right.
For a quick visual overview of how all of this works, take a look at GetResponse's video review of the marketing automation features below.
With app integrations, you can get even more functionality out of your email service provider. GetResponse gives you direct links to social media apps like Facebook, CRM apps like Salesforce, and e-commerce apps like Shopify.
In total, GetResponse has about 30 integrations, which is much less than most platforms. However, you can connect GetResponse to Zapier, which adds around 2,000 integrations to the total count. If you do not mind adding the extra Zapier step, you can connect GetResponse to almost any other software platform.
The GetResponse API offers even more integration options, as it allows connections to a wider range of apps. You can get your API key by navigating to the integration panel and clicking API.
GetResponse has a tool where you can build custom pages or use over 180 different templates to create the perfect landing page.
Like the drag-and-drop tool for email, GetResponse landing page builder is all about usability. You can create landing pages that are mobile responsive and professional without any coding experience.
And if you want to add code? Using the editor, you can add custom code using HTML, CSS or Javascript. If you want to add or embed external elements, all you need to do is make a quick cut and paste.
And to make the page appear, the tool has a built-in image editing program that allows you to add your own images. You can also import images directly from Shutterstock or even add engaging Giphy GIFs to your landing page.
Once you're happy with what your landing page looks like, you can launch it immediately and start gathering potential customers who will be filtered right into your email lists.
With the landing page creator, you can:
structure your landing pages using sections
add content blocks for images, video, text, and buttons
add static and pop-up forms
add webinar registration forms
add a sense of urgency with countdown timers
collect payments thanks to PayPal integration
add social sharing icons
add custom-code elements using HTML, CSS, or Javascript
preview your landing page to see what it looks like on a desktop or a mobile device
Many marketers compare GetResponse vs. MailChimp. I have tried both, and I thought GetResponse's pages were better designed and easier to customize. I counted well over 100 landing page templates, including handy categories for campaigns, downloads, webinars, and more.
Even with limited design skills, I found GetResponse's landing page editor page easy to figure out. It allows you to add advanced options to landing pages, such as forms, PayPal buttons, and countdown timers. You can create unlimited landing pages, even on the cheapest plan.
Web push notifications can be an important part of a funnel, as they ask site visitors to select browser alerts. You can configure these to notify customers about new products, limited sales and other business news.
Most platforms only offer push notifications as a third-party integration, but GetResponse includes them as a built-in feature. I found it easy to set up on my site, and actions like managing permissions and sending alerts were a breeze.
Conversion funnels can be daunting to build, but GetResponse has simplified this once-complicated process.
The conversion funnel feature in GetResponse makes it super easy for you to build successful conversion funnels, even if you've never done it before. The funnels are pre-designed scenarios for what a typical conversion might look like.
For example, if you're trying to sell a course, the conversion path might look like this:
With the conversion funnel function, each step of this conversion is automatically organized into steps you can visualize:
Not only can you see how successful each step of your conversion path is, but you can also track how profitable your efforts are. You can see how many potential customers come into your funnel, and finally how many became paying customers.
Best of all? All the tools needed to build the conversion funnel are already part of GetResponse including options for sales and lead generation. This feature saves you time while making the results much easier to track.
It was easy to set up a simple lead magnet funnel that included a landing page, a download page, an email to potential customers and optional Facebook ads. The funnel visualization helps you understand how potential customers move from one step to the next, and the built-in analysis is great for monitoring your results.
You can start an interactive webinar right from the GetResponse dashboard.
The functionality of the webinar software allows you to create webinars that have a custom webinar URL, registration forms and built-in polls and surveys:
Because the webinars link back to GetResponse, every lead you gather will automatically be added to your email lists and nurtured. If you start a webinar with GetResponse, you will have access to key features such as:
Design tools and interactive whiteboard
Screen sharing/interactive chat room
Recording (so you can remarket the webinar once it’s over)
Q&A session
Moderated chat
Multiple hosts
However, what makes GetResponse's webinar tools stand out is that it has a pre-built advertising machine that you can use to sell things from your webinars. The machine has functions such as:
Predesigned registration pages
Advanced subscription settings
Payment gateways
Using these features, you can sell products, services, and courses directly from your webinars.
We think our suite of lead generation tools makes it easy to nurture contacts and convert them into paying customers.
How? By using segmentation to create highly targeted, personalized emails that make your contacts feel like you're talking to them 1-on-1.
It all starts with our forms, which we have created to collect the most useful data from contacts when they sign up via a newsletter or a landing page.
Once they're on your contact list, you can assign tags to them based on their behavior, and send targeted emails to specific groups.
What sets GetResponse apart is that it automatically picks the most engaged contacts from your list so you can target them.
We call this an Engagement Score. Using real-time data, GetResponse gives each contact on your list a score based on a 5-point scale:
Not engaged (when somebody is not interested in the content you send them… at all)
At-risk
Neutral
Engaged
Highly engaged (when somebody loves the content you send and is actively opening emails and clicking the links)
The engagement points will then appear on your contact list, so you can target your most engaged contacts and increase your chances of making them paying customers.
An example of contacts with varying engagement scores
When GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) laws were introduced, email marketing became a little more complicated. The GDPR specifies stricter rules on what constitutes consent to receive e-newsletters (and requirements for how consent is logged).
GetResponse will be praised for providing users with clear information about what their GDPR responsibilities are, along with special GDPR fields that make it easier to log consent and comply with regulations.
In addition, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for GetResponse login. This ensures that a user is only given access after presenting two or more information - such as a password and a code generated by an authentication app for smartphones.
Given that data security is a key aspect of the GDPR, this is a good feature to have in place.
On the downside, GetResponse's landing page feature is not GDPR compliant if you plan to use a Facebook pixel or other third-party cookie in connection with it - so there is definitely room for improvement here.
The latest addition to GetResponse's feature set is a website builder.
This allows you to create a website in the GetResponse interface and link it to a domain you own (you can also, if you wish, purchase your domain through GetResponse).
The templates for the website builder are pretty good - but as it is now, the tool is a pretty basic affair, which only allows you to create simple, static pages.
You can add GetResponse forms very easily to these, which is useful, but I could not find an obvious way to add products I had created in GetResponse on a test site that I put together with the developer.
So if you are hoping to build an online store with this tool, you will be a little disappointed at the moment. On the plus side, GetResponse says full e-commerce functionality is on the way.
However, as a means of creating a simple brochure website, it will work quite well for some.
One thing to note about GetResponse's site builder is that the sites it creates are not very fast, or particularly compatible with Google's new Core Web Vital site speed and stability standards.
One of the best things about GetResponse is how beginner-friendly it is—even if you're completely new to email marketing. ✅
When I logged into GetResponse for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. The dashboard was clean, easy to navigate, and everything was right where I needed it. From email marketing campaigns to conversion funnels, all major tools are available in the top-left menu. Want to check subscriber lists or view reports? Just head to the center of the top menu—it's that simple.
I was able to upload my contacts and launch my first campaign in under an hour. That’s how intuitive the platform is. 🕒
While features like automation can feel a bit more advanced, GetResponse makes the learning curve smoother. As soon as you start using these tools, the platform offers helpful video tutorials that walk you through each step. When I built my first conversion funnel, animated GIFs guided me through the process so I never felt lost.
Nearly every part of the dashboard links to a relevant guide or tutorial, which is great for anyone who wants to learn quickly without getting overwhelmed.
GetResponse also gives you a flexible dashboard that you can adjust however you want. The interface is built using modules, so you can:
Add or remove widgets
Rearrange the layout
Monitor key stats like list growth, conversion funnels, and daily tasks
Whether you're focused on lead generation or tracking engagement, your most important data is always front and center. 📈
Testing your campaigns is important, and GetResponse makes that easy too. The A/B split testing tool was simple to use. I was able to test different subject lines right away. While I wish there were more options—like testing different sender names or email body content—the tool still delivered great value.
✅ Even better: A/B testing is available on the basic plan, which is perfect if you're on a budget but still want to optimize results.
You can:
Choose your test audience size
Set the testing time frame
Automatically send the winning email to the rest of your list—or review the results first
Another standout feature is GetResponse's multi-language support. You can use the platform in 26 different languages, which is perfect if you're working with international teams or clients.
Supported languages include:
English (US & EU), French, German, Spanish (Spain & Latin America), Portuguese (Brazil & Portugal)
Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean
Russian, Polish, Romanian, Hungarian, Hebrew
Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian
Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, Italian
Whether you're running a global business or just prefer working in your native language, this level of language support is a huge plus. 🌐
Whether you're just starting out or you're ready to use advanced features like automation and split testing, GetResponse is designed to be simple, helpful, and user-friendly. With helpful tutorials, a customizable dashboard, and support in over two dozen languages, it's clear that GetResponse has made ease of use a top priority.
When it comes to reporting, GetResponse goes beyond the basics. While some reviews claim its analytics are limited, I found the opposite to be true. In fact, the platform offers comprehensive, customizable reports that help you make smarter, data-driven decisions.
The GetResponse dashboard includes all the essential stats you’d expect—like:
Open rates
Click-through rates (CTR)
Social shares
Delivery performance
These insights are displayed in a clean, user-friendly interface, making it easy to monitor campaign success.
One standout feature is the ability to compare two email versions side by side. This A/B testing option helps you quickly determine which subject line, timing, or content resonates best with your audience.
Plus, with custom goal tracking, you can dig deeper into performance. Want to know how many subscribers clicked a specific link or made a purchase? Just set a goal, and the platform will track it for you.
If you're working with a team or managing clients, GetResponse makes it simple to schedule and share reports. You can:
Automate delivery of reports to clients or teammates
Set specific report timing (daily, weekly, etc.)
Send reports to multiple stakeholders at once
Keep in mind: multi-user access is available only with the Plus plan and above. If you’re managing a team, upgrading is worth the investment.
🎯 GetResponse doesn’t just give you data—it gives you the ability to act on it. With smart customization, easy A/B comparisons, and team-ready features, it’s one of the better reporting systems available in the email marketing space.
While I was initially disappointed to learn that GetResponse doesn’t offer phone support, the 24/7 live chat completely made up for it.
From my first interaction, I was impressed. I had accidentally sent out my first campaign using the wrong sender name. I opened a live chat, and within seconds, a support agent joined the conversation. In less than three minutes, they provided a clear, easy-to-follow solution—and the problem was fixed.
Later, I reached out for help with email deliverability. I wanted to know how to avoid landing in the spam folder or the Promotions tab. This time, I submitted a support ticket via email. Although it took about 20 hours to receive a response, the tips they gave were actually quite helpful. That said, I’d recommend using live chat if you need faster assistance.
Another time, I asked if it was possible to upload a list of subscribers from a Word document. I didn’t want to convert it to a CSV file. A chat specialist connected within five minutes and replied in just two minutes. I was relieved to learn that I could upload a TXT file directly—saving me time and effort.
One feature I found especially helpful is that GetResponse tracks all support tickets. So even if you use multiple channels, you never lose track of your issues or their status.
Overall, I was really satisfied with the convenient and reliable live chat support. I never had to dig through the FAQ section for detailed answers because the team was always ready to help—fast and effectively.
❌ No phone support
✅ Fast and helpful 24/7 live chat
✅ Email support available (slower response time)
✅ Ability to upload TXT files for subscriber import
✅ Ticket tracking keeps everything organized
