PORTUGAL | Agrup. Escolas Tondela - Tomaz Ribeiro

SCHOOL WEBPAGE

The Agrupamento de Escolas de Tondela - Tomaz Ribeiro comprises 20 schools distributed through the municipality of Tondela (19 administrative sections and covers an area of 371 km² with 28 946 inhabitants (2011)) and encompasses different levels of education from pre-school to secondary education. Among them there is a secondary school with students ranging from the 7th to the 12th grades, two schools that encompass the 5th to the 9th grade each as well as several kindergartens and primary schools. All in all, the number of students attending these schools is 2000, 700 of which belong the Secondary School of Tondela, where the head office of the schools grouping is located.

The geographical dispersion of the schools Grouping is its most striking feature, bringing additional challenges to build a culture that reinforces the unity while respecting diversity. The students live in very different places, in some cases at distances from school greater than 20 km, including many students from neighboring municipalities due to the school offer, which causes many students to be forced to stay in school all day long. Moreover, the students' social background is diverse and the number of the students whose parents are emigrants is also very significant.

The school is in this context practically the only socializing experience most students have contact with. For this reason, the development of projects related to the promotion of greater participation and civic activity have great importance in their educational project.

The curricular matrix of the group is very diverse including all areas in secondary education and 3 technological courses related to the service and reception, laboratory analysis and informatics.

There are only few emigrants in this area. The main industries represented in the town include chemical industry, metal working, carpentry, boat building and construction. The unemployment rate in Kokkola is 8-9 % which is a little lower than in other parts of the country. The village of Kälviä is part of the municipality of Kokkola. The main industry is agriculture. We also have a lot of fur farming. Many inhabitants commute to Kokkola for work.

And because in nowadays we have interesting group of young people with mix off different heritage of cultures and traditions, what is mixed with Latvian culture and traditions, too. And very often it is hard for them to be integrated in social activities because off bilingual situation and various cultural background.

This school has no experience in Erasmus + programs, but we have wish and willing to collaborate and exchange experience with partners from different countries. And we hope the project activities and possibilities will give the positive stimulation for our pupils.

POLAND | Gimnazjum im. Janusza Korczaka

SCHOOL WEBPAGE

PROJECT WEBPAGE

Our school is situated in a 12.000 citizen town Blachownia with few opportunities for cultural activites. There aren`t any cinemas, museums, art galleries, etc. In the town dominates a labour community with low incomes and high level of unemployment. This difficult financial situation also prevents students from participation in cultural and other social activities.

A lot of our students' parents work abroad, therefore these students are taken care by their other relatives. Due to a little possibilities for spending free time in an interesting and an active way, a lot of students, who live without their parents care, are influential to a social pathology.

Project will provide students with opportunities to spent time in active, creative and interesting way. It will open their mind about other cultures, motivate them to perform better & to study foreign languages and it will also enable contact with the peers from Europe.

We will try to involve students who are in risk of social exclusion.

SLOVENIA | OŠ Nove Fužine

SCHOOL WEBPAGE

PROJECT WEBPAGE

We are a public primary school (pupils aged from 6 to 14 years), located in a sleeping settlement Nove Fuzine in the capital city Ljubljana. We have ca 245 pupils who are of various cultural backgrounds due to migrants and refugees from ex-Yugoslavia. Our area is the most densely populated settlement in Slovenia (385 persons per hectare) with 20.000 people. Approximately 40% of the area population are migrants and refugees, however even bigger percentage of the area population is now at social exclusion and financial risks. Due to that, the area is regarded disadvantaged. Our pupils try to keep their culture however they are distant from their roots. They spend most of their spare time in the settlement area rather meaningless and are having lack of opportunities to spend it actively and to improve their social skills. Risks of social exclusion are various and do influence living and learning conditions of the pupils. In school, we try to mediate as much as we can. Previous international project had a lot of very positive impacts (directly or indirectly) on many involved pupils and successes of pupils left impacts also on their parents and teachers. The project will involve mainly pupils who are at risk of social exclusion with an aim to give them opportunities not to spend their spare time risky on public area but to experience social inclusion and develop confident personality. The project activities will stimulate a meaningful participation of young people and engage the pupils involved in the project in negotiating and decisionmaking process. Through active participation pupils will be empowered to play a vital role in their own development as well as in their community.

SPAIN | Institut Pla de Les Moreres

SCHOOL WEBPAGE

PROJECT WEBPAGE

Our school is the only secondary school in the town. We have about 50 teachers and 510 pupils. Though we are Catalan speakers, most of the citizens in this district had come from other regions of Spain (in the 60's) and their first speaking language is Spanish. We have to make a lot of efforts to improve their Catalan language while we are trying to teach English because it's necessary too. We are always fighting against this thought: Spanish is the only language they need. Our students need to find out new ways to understand different cultures, learning new skills to be applied in their social environment through different cultural activities. There aren't refugees in our town. But we have about 2% immigrants mainly from Morocco and South America. Otherwise, due to the financial crisis, most of the population is jobless nowadays and students can't go abroad to improve their English language. Therefore we think that this project is a great chance to provide our students with a chance to know new foreign partners, to get new skills and gain cultural knowledge. Otherwise as students learn Visual Arts in English we can do many results and activities for the project connected to this area.

Our school had been involved in a lot of projects of Catalan Government. One of this project is "Educat 2.0" which provides use of digital whiteboards (PDI) and personal computers in the classroom. Other projects that we had done are: school library project, T.I.C., Authonomy School Project (PAC) and Integrated Plan of Foreign Languages PILE (Visual arts in English).
