GetEveryFile does not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. The developer receives nothing from it: no account, no analytics, no usage statistics, no crash reports, no advertising identifiers. It has no server of its own to send anything to, and it never uploads anything — every request it makes only ever asks a server to send something back (see "Network requests it makes" below).
GetEveryFile requires no account, sign-in or subscription — it works as soon as you install it. When you click its toolbar button, it looks at the web page in the tab you are on, scanning it entirely on your own computer, and lists the files it finds there (PDFs, spreadsheets, images and so on). You choose the files, and it saves them to a folder in your Downloads folder using Chrome's own, built-in downloads mechanism.
To build the list it reads the page you have open: the addresses of links and images, the text of links, the description text of images, the page title and address, and whether parts of the page are hidden. It reads this only after you click the button, only in that tab, and only on your computer. It does not read what you type into forms, passwords, your cookies, your browsing history, your bookmarks or your other tabs. To explain an empty or unusual result, it also checks two things on your computer: whether the page has a password field (yes or no only; it never reads what is in the field) and how long the page's visible text is (a character count, not the text itself). These two facts are used only to show a note such as "this looks like a login page" or "this page has very little content". What it reads is kept in memory while the popup is open and while a download run is in progress. It is not written to disk and it is not sent to the developer or anyone else.
The extension makes only two kinds of requests, both to sites you are already using and both because of something you did:
1. Checking links (when you open the popup). To tell real files from ordinary web pages, it may send a small "what type is this?" (HEAD) request to the website you are on, for links on that same website. This is like your browser loading a link from that page. It goes only to that same site and sends that site's normal cookies, as the page itself would.
2. Downloading the files you selected (when you press Download). It asks the server that hosts each file for that file, the same as clicking the link yourself, using your browser's normal cookies for that server. Those sites can see the request, as they would see any download you make. GetEveryFile does not add any identifier to it.
The developer receives nothing: none of these requests goes to the developer, and there is no developer server for anything to reach. The only servers contacted are the website you are on and the servers that host the files you choose to download (which can be a different site, such as a content network). Those sites see these requests, and your IP address with them, exactly as if you had clicked the link yourself. The extension sends nothing to any other third party, and it loads no code, fonts, images or scripts from the internet; everything it runs is packaged with it.
• The files you download, in Downloads on your computer, in a folder named after the website and the time. They stay there until you delete them.
• Chrome's own download history records each download, as it does for every download. GetEveryFile does not add to it or copy it.
• In memory only: the list of found files and your ticks live only in the popup and disappear the instant you close it. The current download report is different: it lives in the extension's background process, not the popup, so closing the popup does not clear it — it is only cleared if Chrome stops that background process after a period of inactivity (roughly 30 seconds with neither the popup open nor a download in progress). Nothing here is ever written to disk, sent anywhere, or kept between browser sessions — closing the browser clears it too — and there are no settings or user IDs.
• Your clipboard, only if you click "Copy log": the download report (page address, folder, and each file's address, size, type and result) is copied so you can paste it where you like. Nothing else is put on the clipboard.
• downloads: to save the files you chose into your Downloads folder, to see whether each one finished or failed, and to stop one that is stuck. This permission means Chrome exposes download metadata to the extension for every download that happens in the browser, not only its own — including ones you start directly, ones a website starts, or ones another extension starts. GetEveryFile ignores and stores nothing about any download it did not start itself; it only ever acts on the ones it started.
• activeTab: to let the extension look at the current tab, but only after you click its button, and only that tab. This access ends when you leave the page or close the tab. The extension has no permission to see your other tabs or any site in advance.
• scripting: to run the extension's own packaged code inside the current tab so it can read the links and images listed above. No code is fetched from the internet.
It requests no access to all websites, no access to your history, bookmarks, cookies or storage, and no remote code.
The popup has a "Feedback" link. It does nothing unless you click it. If you do, it opens a page or an email to the feedback address above in a new tab. The extension does not attach the page you were on, the file list or any other information; what you send is only what you write.
GetEveryFile is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
It does not log in for you, does not crawl other pages, does not handle streaming video or protected content, and has no payments, accounts or advertising.
If the extension ever changes how it handles data, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the "Last updated" date above will change.
