Our school does a fun 20 day countdown (2025 Countdown linked) to EOGs where every homeroom/advisory group has a review activity daily. We set it up where math has two days, ELA has two days, and science/social studies split Wednesdays (we have district level science and social studies exams). These are a sample of the 20 minute activities we ask our students to complete during the 20 day countdown for sixth grade. Make sure to view the teacher notes for tips on how these are "taught" for non-math teachers who have advisory groups.
Several of the math problems are based on released test items from North Carolina, New York, Ohio, or California. These released test items were reviewed by our math department who selected concepts and examples of problems students would struggle with during the EOGs. The MCL (multi-classroom leader/math lead) and SLMC (that's me) then worked to create these pieces.
A Side Note:
We also have some countdown days or advisory days where we simply do the around the world style game of basic math facts/multiplication tables just to review
This can be fun, but you do need to know your students. If timed actions cause anxiety, this may not be the ideal game for them
You can modify this with handheld white boards and do an all response "longer" double digit type math problem. Have everyone "work" the math. When they finish boards are face down. When it looks like everyone is done, do a countdown (3, 2, 1 - show me) to reveal the answer. Then students show you their board. You can visibly scan to see where the struggles and successes are within the class. If you want to add "competition", you could divide the class into sections, and just do a quick statement like "It looks like section C did really well on that one today" to call out success.
