My Personal Experience
Personally, I've had a mix of excitement, challenges, and a lot of learning. This course has given me real insight into general audio, and each assignment has been a lesson, pushing me to improve my skills and deepen my understanding.
To be honest, I was both eager and a bit anxious. I had high hopes of gaining practical skills in audio recording and editing, but I wasn’t sure what to expect. The hands-on nature of the course has been exactly what I needed. From the very first assignment, where we had to record our own voices, I realized that this course was going to be both challenging and rewarding.
Recording my voice was a more complex task than I initially thought. Using my mobile phone, I had to make sure the recording was free of background noise and as clear as possible. Reciting the script was straightforward in theory, but I quickly learned the importance of having a controlled environment. It took several attempts to get a recording that I was happy with, free of interruptions or unwanted sounds. This exercise taught me the basics of sound quality and the importance of a quiet recording space.
It also made me pay attention to the subtle details of sound recording. I had to experiment with different recording techniques and positions to get the best quality sound. I realized that it wasn’t just about recording sounds; it was about presenting my work professionally and getting feedback. Seeing my work alongside my classmates was both inspiring and a bit intimidating, lol. Some of their recordings were incredibly well-done, which set a high standard for me. This comparison pushed me to strive for better quality and creativity in my future assignments.
I'll be frankly honest, my classmates' works were impressive, and it gave me new insights into what was possible. I saw the various approaches and techniques they used, which help me to learn and grow. This was an important moment for me because it changed my outlook moving forward. I realized that I had to step up my game and be more innovative and meticulous in my work.
When I think of Assignment 2 and the final project, I am filled with both excitement and a bit of nervousness. I have brainstormed some ideas that involve intricate audio elements, and I am determined to create a project that meets or even surpasses the quality of the sample projects we were shown. It’s a significant challenge, but I feel more prepared now, thanks to the skills I’ve developed so far. My goal is to produce something that reflects my growth and the knowledge I’ve gained throughout the course.
Unfortunately, I didn’t attend the recent face-to-face (F2F) session. This was a missed opportunity to collaborate and gain insights directly from my peers and instructors. However, I am optimistic about future interactions and opportunities to engage more with my classmates. I hope to participate in virtual meetings or group projects to make up for the missed session. Collaborating with others is something I look forward to because it can provide valuable feedback and new perspectives.
I can say that I'm proud of myself for reaching the midpoint of MMS 172. I feel a sense of accomplishment. The course has not only helped me improve my technical skills but also deepened my appreciation for the nuances of audio in multimedia. Each assignment has been a stepping stone, building on the previous one, and I can see a clear progression in my skills and understanding.
Really, the practical nature of the assignments has been particularly beneficial. Recording my voice, capturing ambient sounds, and uploading them to SoundCloud have given me hands-on experience that I wouldn’t have gained otherwise. Embedding these recordings in my ePortfolio and reflecting on the process has also helped me critically analyze my work and identify areas for improvement.=
I think one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of a controlled recording environment. Background noise can significantly affect the quality of a recording, and I’ve had to find creative solutions to minimize it. This has involved experimenting with different recording spaces, using blankets and pillows to absorb sound, and even recording at different times of the day to avoid external noise.
When it comes to the final project, I am excited about the possibilities. I plan to remake a composed song and incorporate more complex audio elements and experiment with different recording techniques. The skills and knowledge I’ve gained so far have given me a solid foundation, and I am eager to apply them in my final project.
The feedback from my classmates has been invaluable. Their insights have helped me refine my techniques and approach, and I am grateful for the collaborative learning environment. I look forward to more opportunities to learn from them and share my own experiences.
In conclusion, MMS 172 has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. The course has pushed me to improve my technical skills, think creatively, and appreciate the subtleties of audio in multimedia. I am proud of what I have achieved so far and excited about what’s to come.
