Research

  • My research interests include power system dynamics, stability, optimization, and control, aiming to overcome the challenges brought about by the energy transition and provide innovative solutions for a more sustainable, resilient, and smarter grid.

  • My postdoc research focuses on “RailPower: Power and Energy for the future railways”, a project supported by the ETH Mobility Initiative in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems (IVT). We investigate the optimal operation of the future electric railways incorporating electric vehicle charging stations and renewable energy. It is anticipated that the proposed algorithms may enable the vision of train stations becoming future energy hubs and provide significant insights regarding their impacts onto the power system flows.

  • My Ph.D. research systematically investigated the impact of uncertainty of renewable generation and electric loads on the secure operation of sustainable electric energy systems and proposed novel solutions against the occurrence of unwanted power outages in modern power grids. My work focused on revealing the impacts of the time evolution property of the driving parameters, i.e., the load power variation speed, on voltage stability, providing important practical insights regarding how to mitigate the negative impacts of uncertainty. We have also proposed novel data-driven wide-area control solutions to enhance the voltage stability of modern sustainable power grids.

  • Future scientific efforts will focus on building on my prior experience and further expanding the breadth of my research towards enhancing the secure operation of power grids. Particularly, I intend to work on developing new online optimization algorithms for energy management, data-driven methods for stability and cybersecurity analysis, and intelligent distributed controllers that exploit emerging infrastructure, such as energy storage systems and renewable inverters, to avoid stressed system operation.
