Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student 6 growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.

Description: This project prompted us to write a 10 question quiz, using 8 multiple choice questions and 2 essay questions using any chapter from our textbook, "Educational Psychology" by Anita Woolfolk. The questions were required to be a minimum of at "Application" level or higher.
Connection to Illinois Learning Standard 7: This test analysis project shows evidence to support Standard 7 Assessment, because it includes creating and writing a test based on textbook material that uses an appropriate format of multiple choice questions and short essay reponses. It also shows evidence of summarizing the test results for the entire class and also individual student performances. After reviewing the results, specific steps to help students improve, based on their scores, were suggested to help better understand the material taught. These next steps could be to revise or rewrite certain questions to eliminate confusion, reteaching the material for better understanding and retention, and determining strategies to identify the needs of each student to requires extra accommodations. In addition, this project provides evidence of IPTS performance indicator, "uses assessment results to determine student performance levels, identify learning targets, select appropriate research-based instructional strategies, and implement instruction to enhance learning outcomes." (7J). When all of the test scores were recorded, the analysis of test scores helps indicate if the material was understood. Also if the test questions needed to be rewritten/removed, or also if the test questions were unclear or misunderstood. This data helps me understand how to meet the needs of my students to enable all of them to be successful. This is specifically important for students with disabilities, IEPs, and accommodations. I can review each test score for every student to gather understanding of where the student may need additional help or to use a different method of teaching to boost successful learning. I would also like to point out that this project provides evidence of IPTS performance indicator, "involves students in self-assessment activities to help them become aware of their strengths and needs and encourages them to establish goals for learning" (7L). After calculating the test scores, I suggested to review the test with the whole class. Students who scored a C or lower, were given the opportunity to do test corrections. Doing this helps students understand where they made mistakes and can correct them. This also opens up chances to review questions and materials that were confusing or hard. This encourages students to make corrections/changes to improve or build upon their learning goals. Both the test and test analysis provide evidence of understanding IPTS standard, "effectively uses appropriate technologies to conduct assessments, monitor performance, and assess student progress" (7O). By administering the test online, it allows students to complete the material untimed and at their own pace. They can complete the google form test as fast or as slow as they want to. This lowers test anxiety as well since all students are recommended to go at the pace that is best for them. When the test is complete, all test scores are automatically gathered in one place and certain basic statistics are calulated as well. This allowed me to determine the appropriate next steps or teaching methods based off of the data I gathered and calculated for each individual student.
Self-Reflection: Completing this project, I learned to construct a test by writing multiple choice questions/short essay questions at Blooms Taxonomy's "Application" level or higher. I also learned how to analyze test scores for both the whole class and individual students. With the help of technology, creating a test online is beneficial for myself, for scoring/grading, as well as the potential for improved student performance. As a teacher, I can see a summary of the test results, so I know what material needs to be adjusted/modified. The test construction and analysis is a great way to show how I can use different learning styles and accommodations through student data analysis.
