After receiving his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. George joined the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis as a Postdoctoral Fellow. There, he used integrative electrophysiological approaches to investigate neurosensory processing using weakly electric fish as a model system. He later became an Assistant Professor at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, where his research shifted toward understanding the neuronal mechanisms underlying cognitive decline in neurodegenerative disorders. In 2021, Dr. George joined the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Using a combination of electrophysiological, molecular, and transcriptomic approaches, his laboratory investigates how Alzheimer’s disease-associated neuropathology disrupts the functional stability of neuronal populations involved in memory formation and maintenance, with a particular focus on those that are selectively vulnerable during the earliest stages of the disease.
