Journey

Purpose

The main purpose of the this project was to format questions based around evapotranspiration that we could eventually answer through our data. Our plan of action was to formulate graphs that emulate the activity of the sensors over time, and through Excel or Jupyter we could create various graphs that portrayed our vision of the data.

Our questions consisted of:

How does evapotranspiration differ regionally, and what could be the cause?

Will there be any similarities between the graphed data of the sensors from different counties of Illinois?

What does our data tell us about the process of evapotranspiration.

Procedure

First, we were tasked to disassemble and reassemble the logger by taking out every wire on the breadboard and the Arduino board, this step was taken to better understand the structure and the components of the data loggers.

Second, after the every component was reassembled we had to upload the set code on Arduino to program the data loggers to be deployed with all the attached sensors.

Third, once the Arduino code was uploaded in the logger, we decided to launch the data loggers for a 3-day span to get as much information as possible. To do this we had to make confirm our parameters/variables and then wrap the logger in a plastic bag for safety from rain.

Finally, once the 3 days were up we deactivated the data loggers, took out the SD card, put it in the USB card reader, and uploaded the data to Excel and Jupyter where we could graph the data.
