The GEOMUN conference will be run on a combined platform of Discord and Zoom. Both are free to use and require you to make an account. On Discord, a GEOMUN server will be utilized that all delegates will join where they will be organized into various channels that coordinate their zones and committees. With this platform, delegates can change their name into their country and it will also be used for certain elements of committee. Zoom will be used for video calling past a maximum size of delegates that Discord cannot accommodate.
GEOMUN will utilize UNA-USA and THIMUN rules of procedure that can be found on our Preparation page. Pre-written resolutions in UNA-USA will not be allowed in committee and any delegates who are found to be in breach of those rules will be dealt accordingly by the Secretariat of the conference. All committee sessions at the conference will be conducted in English; all delegates are expected to have a fluent understanding of the language to participate at GEOMUN. Three DAIS members will be running committee at all times. Due to the intricacies of running a Model UN conference through an online platform, the following procedure will be utilized:
General Assembly and Specialized Agencies will be run through both Discord and Google Meet, while Crisis Committees will be run through only Discord. Videos of all delegates must be turned on at all times on both Discord and Google Meet and Western business attire must be worn at all time
On the Discord Server, one "#formaldebate" channel and several "#unmodrooms" will be set up for each committee.
Roll Call of delegates will be practiced before any other committee actions are undertaken. Delegates will respond on the call as "Present" or "Present and Voting"
To vote for points/motions in committee, delegates will be emailed a PDF placard, which must be printed in preparation for committee. Delegates will raise their placards on camera for chairs to conduct a vote.
For delegates in all committees, to be selected for the speakers lists, speak in moderated caucuses and suggest any points/motions, on the “#formaldebate” channel, chairs will send messages with reaction buttons for delegates to signal that they wish to be chosen. Delegates may also raise their placards on camera if they wish.
For General Assembly and Specialized Agencies, formal debate will be conducted on Google Meet. This includes the Primary/Secondary Speakers List, Moderated Caucuses, and Points/Motions. Chairs will share a Google Meet call link on the text channel "#formaldebate" in the committee on Discord.
All committees will have informal debate conducted on Discord. Using the "#unmodrooms" which will be set up in each committee, delegates will mention in their speeches what room they want delegates to meet them in and may also plan this out in their "note-passing". There will be a cap of 25 delegates at maximum in each unmod room.
Note passing will be allowed between delegates through private messages on Discord. Delegates are expected to turn on their settings to allow people in mutual servers to contact them privately even if they are not friended on the platform. If this privilege is abused by delegates, chairs may rescind this option.
Voting on resolutions will be conducted similar to voting for points/motions.
