Minerals

Minerals are formed naturally by geological processes. A mineral is a homogeneous solid that can be made of a single native element or more usually a compound. Minerals make up Earth's rocks and sands, and are an important component of soils. Minerals can be found all around us, from the paper we use, to our electronics and machines, as well as everything in between.

Many minerals have a specific composition, but there are some that make use of solid solution. When the mineral composition changes, this is referred to as a solid solution.

Minerals are formed in nature by a variety of processes. Among them are: Crystallization from melt (igneous rocks) Precipitation from water (chemical sedimentary rocks, hydrothermal ore deposits)
