President Peppa's closing remarks:
What a fantastic few days we have had here in Kingaroy and the South Burnett!
As we bring CacheFest ’26 to a close, I want to take a few moments to reflect on what has been a wonderful celebration of geocaching, friendship, adventure and community. We've had 488 entries in the official Logbook. That's well beyond our wildest expectations.
On behalf of Geocaching Queensland, thank you to everyone who has joined us over the weekend. Whether you have travelled from across Queensland, interstate, or simply down the road, your presence has helped make this event what it is. We hope you have enjoyed discovering Kingaroy and the surrounding region, finding a few caches, attending some great events, meeting old friends and making plenty of new ones. And hopefully, you have all managed to drop a few favourite points along the way!
Before we get into the formalities of closing CacheFest, we have a few exciting things to take care of this morning! (summarized) The prizes of the Bingo, Passport, Raffles, Lucky Door Prize. Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to everyone who participated. We hope you have enjoyed the competitions, had a little extra fun along the way, and perhaps even walked away with a prize or two!
Now, I'll move on to thanking the wonderful people who helped make CacheFest ’26 possible. An event like CacheFest doesn't happen without the support of some wonderful organisations and businesses. We are incredibly grateful to those who have supported us and helped make this weekend possible. I would like to take a moment and individually acknowledge and thank our sponsors. First, Crittendens Upholstery at Kingaroy. Thank you for your generous support and for helping us bring CacheFest ’26 to life here in Kingaroy. To Wondai Local Post Office and Peries IGA Kingaroy, thank you for your support and for helping us celebrate geocaching across the South Burnett. To CacheQLD, thank you for your contribution to Geocaching Queensland and for helping us deliver this event that has brought our community together. To the Kingaroy Visitor Centre, thank you for welcoming us to the region and for helping us showcase everything that Kingaroy and the South Burnett have to offer. And finally, to Kathmandu, thank you for your support and for helping us equip our geocachers for to “Get out there”. Please join me in giving all our sponsors a very well-deserved round of applause.
I also want to acknowledge the many people who have worked behind the scenes to make this event happen. To the Geocaching Queensland Management Committee, our volunteers, event hosts, cache owners and everyone who has contributed their time, energy and enthusiasm — thank you. To Mick, Chamad, who has put so much into bringing CacheFest to Kingaroy, thank you for your hard work, your creativity and your commitment to making this event special. To the local community, businesses, organisations and residents who have welcomed us, thank you for making us feel at home.
I would like to take a moment to formally introduce your GQ Management Committee, Chamad, Mick Jordan, Davinells, Liesl Cornell, JACS_Team, Sheridan Davis, your Treasurer – AreWeThereYet?, Bruce Anderson & finally your Secretary, TMZ59 Wendy McAlister. And those who couldn't be here Burgo78, Townsville, Dat87, Cairns and Alpha_G, Mackay. I said I wouldn't embarrass them. I lied. Thankyou.
To everyone who has attended an event, written a great log, helped another cacher, or simply shared a smile over the weekend, you are the reason we do this. Geocaching is about much more than finding a container. It is about the people, the places and the caches — and this weekend has certainly reminded us of that.
Looking Ahead – CacheFest ’27 Cairns
Now, I know many of you are already wondering where we are heading next!
Well, I am very pleased to announce that CacheFest ’27 will be held in Cairns during the October long weekend!
We are heading to Far North Queensland, and we are looking forward to bringing the geocaching community together in another fantastic part of our state.
Cairns offers us a wonderful opportunity to explore somewhere different, discover new places, enjoy some great geocaching from the reef to the rainforest and, of course, catch up with friends from across Queensland and beyond. There is plenty of planning ahead, but we are already looking forward to what promises to be another memorable CacheFest.
So, Cairns, get ready — the geocachers are coming!
Easter 2028 - Fraser Coast
And while we are looking ahead, I also have an important announcement regarding our Easter 2028 Major Event.
After further consideration and planning, we have made the decision to move the event from Mackay to the Fraser Coast, due to logistical reasons. We recognise that changes like this can create questions, but we believe the Fraser Coast, centred on Maryborough and Hervey Bay provides us with an opportunity to continue developing an exciting major event for our geocaching community.
We will share further details as planning progresses, but for now, please mark Easter 2028 in your calendars and keep the wonderful Fraser Coast in mind. We look forward to bringing the geocaching community together for another major Queensland event.
As we come to the end of CacheFest ’26, I hope you are heading home with some great memories, a few new friends, plenty of smileys and perhaps a little less room in your car than when you arrived! For those travelling home, please take care on the roads. We want to see you all back at another event soon.
On behalf of Geocaching Queensland, it has been an absolute pleasure to welcome you to Kingaroy and the South Burnett. We look forward to seeing you in Cairns for CacheFest ’27, and in Maryborough for Easter 2028. Until then, keep caching, keep exploring, keep supporting one another, and remember that the best part of geocaching is often the people you meet along the way. Thank you, everyone, and safe travels! CacheFest ’26 is officially closed!
