With just four weeks to go until GQ CacheFest ’26, things are really starting to come together! We’re looking forward to welcoming geocachers to Kingaroy for a huge weekend of caching, catch-ups and community from October 3–5. Alongside the main events, there will be plenty of new caches to discover, Adventure Labs to complete, special series to tackle and a few surprises still to come. Here’s a quick update on what’s happening as we count down to CacheFest! (read more).

The Geocache of the Year Awards (GOTYA)s have been established to recognise and celebrate excellence in geocaching across Queensland.
The awards aim to highlight caches and log entries that demonstrate creativity, quality, and the spirit of adventure that defines the geocaching community.
Through the GOTYAs, Geocaching Queensland seeks to acknowledge those who go above and beyond in creating, sharing, and celebrating the game of geocaching in Queensland.
From 1 September, visit https://www.geocachingqueensland.com.au/blog/gotyas to find the nomination form and help celebrate the people and caches that make Queensland geocaching great!

Shareables are custom pieces of digital artwork that players can create, collect, and share with the geocaching community. They might celebrate a recent hide, a milestone, a pet, or a favourite geocaching adventure.
Geocaching Queensland now has two new Shareables!
Attend a Geocaching Queensland event to receive the Geocaching Queensland Stamp, and attend an event over the October Long Weekend at CacheFest 2026 - Kingaroy to receive a spcecial commerative design.

What an incredible way to celebrate International Geocaching Day yesterday!

It was fantastic to see geocachers from near and far coming together to celebrate our favourite hobby.
A massive thank you to your committee and everyone behind the scenes who helped make the seven events possible. And, of course, thank you to every cacher who came along and brought the enthusiasm, friendship and fun that makes the geocaching community so special.

Welcome to GQ CacheFest 2026, proudly hosted in the heart of the South Burnett, Kingaroy, Queensland’s Peanut Capital planned for the October Long Weekend 2026 (3rd – 5th), shell we begin?
While formalities and procedures are still underway, we can officially say that, in a nutshell … it’s going to be epic. At this stage, please consider this a “Save the Date” announcement, with more details to follow once approvals are finalised. What we can confirm so far:
A brand new GeoArt planned for the area
Several new Adventure Labs
A weekend program including a dinner event and entertainment
We will also have information packs available for those who register a “Will Attend” on the event listing (when it goes live).
Accommodation has been secured at the Kingaroy Showgrounds, including Powered and Unpowered sites. There are also additional accommodation options available throughout Kingaroy and the broader South Burnett region.
The area offers a wide range of short and long touring opportunities, making it an ideal destination for a full weekend (or longer!) of caching and exploring.

Geocaching Queensland is kicking off the year and hosting two Think Tank events.
This is an opportunity for members and geocachers to come together and help shape the future of the association. While the committee has plans, ideas, goals, and targets, this is your chance to have a say, share what interests and motivates you to keep caching and staying involved.
The events in Brisbane and Townsville will include an open discussion and an idea sharing session, capturing suggestions from attendees. Whether you have big ideas or just want to listen and learn, your input is valued.
The events will also include an update on where the association has progressed so far, along with a small teaser of what’s ahead on upcoming plans and future events.

It's Raining Caches (IRC) is a project initiative by Sydney based geocacher, beautifulsky13.
