## 1. Introduction
ShareGo ("we", "our", "the app") is an offline file-sharing app. It moves files, text, links, apps and contacts directly between devices on the same Wi-Fi network or phone hotspot. Other Android phones running ShareGo connect app-to-app. iPhones and computers connect through a web browser, with no app needed on their side.
**ShareGo has no servers and no user accounts.** Your files travel directly from one device to another on your local network. They are never uploaded to us or to any cloud service, and we never see them.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, where it stays, and the limited data that third-party services (advertising and Google Play purchases) may collect.
By using ShareGo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
## 2. Information We Collect
### 2.1 Information You Choose to Share
ShareGo only reads the content you choose to send. That content goes straight to the device you are connected to.
- **Files and media:** photos, videos, audio, documents, downloads and folders you pick to send.
- **Text and links:** text, links or codes you type or paste into "Send text".
- **Installed apps:** when you use "Send apps", the app lists apps installed on your phone. It packages the ones you select as APK files so you can send them. The list is built on your device and never leaves it.
- **Contacts (Phone Clone only):** only if you tick "Contacts" and grant permission, ShareGo reads your contacts once. It saves them as a vCard file and sends it to your other phone. Nothing is uploaded or kept by us.
- **Clipboard (optional, off by default):** if you turn on "Universal clipboard", text you copy is synced to the one phone you have linked. Clipboard sync works only while that setting is on.
- **Device name:** your phone's name (by default its model, such as "Pixel 8"). You can change it in Settings. It is shown to nearby devices so they can recognise you.
### 2.2 Information Stored on Your Device
ShareGo keeps a little information on your device so it can work. None of it is sent to us.
- **Transfer history:** file name, size, direction (sent/received), the other device's name, connection type, time, status, and the location of the received file.
- **Resume records:** temporary records that let an interrupted transfer continue where it stopped. They are removed when the transfer completes, or cleaned up after they go stale.
- **Settings:** your preferences, such as device name, PIN requirement, Secure Transfer Mode, clipboard sync, auto-stop timer and theme.
- **Received files:** saved in your phone's `Downloads/ShareGo` folder. Restored photos, videos and music from Phone Clone go to the usual Pictures, DCIM, Movies or Music folders.
### 2.3 Information Collected Automatically by Third Parties
ShareGo itself does not use analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools. The third-party services listed in Section 5 may collect:
- **Advertising ID and device information** (Google AdMob), for showing and measuring ads in the free version.
- **Purchase information** (Google Play Billing), to process and restore the Premium upgrade.
## 3. How We Use Your Information
Information is used only to:
- Send and receive the files, text, apps and contacts you choose.
- Show your device name to nearby devices, and theirs to you, so you can pick the right one.
- Resume interrupted transfers and show your transfer history.
- Protect sessions with a PIN, one-time access tokens and Accept/Reject approval.
- Sync your clipboard with your linked phone, only if you turn this on.
- Show transfer progress notifications while sharing is active.
- Display advertisements in the free version.
- Process and restore the one-time Premium purchase.
We do not build profiles about you, and we do not use your files or contacts for advertising.
## 4. Data Storage and Security
### 4.1 Local Storage
- Transfer history, resume records and settings are stored in the app's private storage on your device.
- Received files are stored in your device's shared storage (`Downloads/ShareGo` and media folders), so you can open them in other apps.
- We operate no servers or cloud storage. There is no cloud backup, and nothing is synced to us.
### 4.2 How Transfers Work
- When sharing is on, ShareGo runs a small web server on your phone that only devices on the **same local network** can reach. It runs only while a sharing session is active. It stops when you end the session, or automatically after a period with no activity.
- Nearby ShareGo phones find each other using local network discovery (mDNS/NSD). Your device name and the app's local address are announced only on your local network.
- Transfers go directly between the two devices and never pass through the internet.
### 4.3 Security Measures
- **Session access control:** every file, text and clipboard request needs a valid access token. Tokens come from the QR code, a 6-digit session PIN, or your approval of the other device.
- **PIN protection:** an optional 6-digit PIN is generated randomly for each session. Repeated wrong guesses temporarily lock out the device trying them.
- **Secure Transfer Mode:** when enabled, every new device must be approved by you before it can access anything.
- **Automatic expiry:** access tokens expire after 30 minutes of inactivity. You can disconnect any device at any time.
- **Important limitation:** transfers use plain HTTP on your local network and are **not encrypted**. This is the same approach browser-based local sharing commonly uses, because browsers cannot verify certificates for local addresses. Someone else on the same network could in principle observe the traffic. For sensitive files, use a network you trust, such as your own Wi-Fi or ShareGo's hotspot mode, and turn on the PIN or Secure Transfer Mode.
## 5. Data Sharing
### 5.1 We Do NOT Sell Your Data
We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information. Your files, contacts and clipboard content are never shared with us or with any third party. They only reach the device **you** choose to connect to.
### 5.2 Third-Party Services
ShareGo uses the following third-party services:
| Service | Purpose | Data Accessed | Privacy Policy |
|---------|---------|---------------|----------------|
| Google AdMob | Advertising in the free version | Advertising ID, device and app information, ad interactions, approximate location from IP address | [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) |
| Google Play Billing | One-time Premium purchase | Purchase status and history (handled by Google Play) | [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) |
Payment details are handled entirely by Google Play. ShareGo never sees your card or payment information.
ShareGo also includes open-source libraries: Ktor (local web server), ZXing (QR codes), AndroidX, Material Components, Dagger Hilt and Kotlin Coroutines. These run entirely on your device and do not collect or transmit any data.
### 5.3 Ad Personalization
- The free version shows banner and interstitial ads served by Google AdMob.
- AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and usage information to personalise ads.
- You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your device settings (Settings > Google > Ads, or Settings > Privacy > Ads).
- Buying **Premium** removes all ads.
## 6. Permissions
ShareGo asks only for the permissions it needs. Most are requested only when you use the related feature.
| Permission | Why ShareGo needs it |
|-----------|----------------------|
| Internet, network and Wi-Fi state | Run the local transfer server and connect to devices on your Wi-Fi or hotspot. Also used to load ads. |
| Wi-Fi multicast / Nearby Wi-Fi devices | Find other ShareGo phones on the same network. On Android 13+ this is declared as not used for location. |
| Location (precise) | Only when you start **Hotspot mode**, because Android requires location permission to create a local hotspot (and for Wi-Fi discovery on Android 12 and older). ShareGo never reads, stores or shares your location. |
| Camera | Scan QR codes to connect. Camera frames are processed on your device and never saved or sent. |
| Photos, videos and audio (media access) | Show your media so you can pick files to send, and let connected browsers browse the media you allow. |
| Storage (Android 9 and older) | Save received files to your Downloads folder. |
| Contacts | **Phone Clone only.** Export your contacts as a vCard file for your other phone. Requested only when you choose to clone contacts. |
| Notifications and foreground service | Keep transfers running with the screen off, and show progress and approval prompts. |
| Advertising ID | Used by Google AdMob for ads (see Section 5.3). |
| Billing | Process the Premium purchase through Google Play. |
## 7. Photos, Media and Contacts
- Files, photos and videos are accessed only when you choose to send them, or when you open a sharing session that lets a connected browser browse your media.
- Media is sent directly to the device you choose. It is never uploaded to us or used for advertising.
- Contacts are read only when you explicitly choose to clone them. They are converted into a single vCard file and sent directly to your other phone. ShareGo does not keep a copy and never uploads them anywhere.
- SMS messages and call logs are **not** accessed. ShareGo does not request those permissions.
## 8. Children's Privacy
ShareGo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because ShareGo has no accounts or servers, we hold no personal information to delete. If you believe a child has provided information through a third-party service used by the app, contact us and we will help.
## 9. Your Rights and Choices
### 9.1 Access and Control
- You can view your full transfer history in the app at any time.
- You decide exactly what is sent and to which device. You can pause, cancel or reject any transfer.
- You can disconnect any device and stop the sharing session at any time.
- Clipboard sync, PIN requirement and Secure Transfer Mode can be switched on or off in Settings.
### 9.2 Data Deletion
- Delete individual history entries, or clear all history, from the History screen.
- Received files are ordinary files on your device. Delete them from `Downloads/ShareGo` with any file manager.
- Uninstalling ShareGo removes its history, resume records and settings. Received files stay in your Downloads folder until you delete them.
- We store no data on servers, so there is nothing on our side to delete.
### 9.3 Notifications
You can turn off ShareGo notifications in your device settings. While a transfer is running, Android requires an ongoing notification for the foreground service.
### 9.4 Ad Preferences
- Premium removes all advertisements.
- You can opt out of personalised ads through your device settings (see Section 5.3).
## 10. GDPR and Similar Laws (European and UK Users)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to:
- **Access** — ask what personal data is processed about you
- **Rectification** — correct inaccurate data
- **Erasure** — request deletion of your data
- **Restriction** — limit how your data is processed
- **Data portability** — receive your data in a portable format
- **Object** — object to processing for advertising purposes
ShareGo processes your files, contacts and history only on your own device. The only third-party processing is Google AdMob (advertising) and Google Play (purchases), as described above. Their processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at naeem.abbas20201@gmail.com.
## 11. Data Retention
- Transfer history and settings stay on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
- Resume records for interrupted transfers are removed when the transfer completes, or cleaned up automatically after they go stale.
- Session PINs and access tokens exist only in memory during a sharing session. They expire after 30 minutes of inactivity and are discarded when the session ends.
- Clipboard content synced between linked phones is not stored in history.
- Data collected by Google AdMob and Google Play is retained according to Google's policies.
## 12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy
- Post a notice within the app for significant changes
Your continued use of ShareGo after changes means you accept the updated policy.
