Pray the Our Father

Praying the Our Father

I say one word of the Our Father aloud or in the silence of my heart. I let it echo in my mind, delighting in it so long as meanings, comparisons, and consolations are found. No matter how long it takes I remain with that one word without hurrying on. When I am ready I move on to the next word and once again let it echo in my mind.

When I have finished my time of prayer, I briefly pray the remainder of the Our Father.

Based on Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola (249-257)

Lord, You have made us for Yourself, And our hearts are restless till they rest in You. (St. Augustine)

THE LORD’S PRAYER

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen

The Lord's Prayer in Scottish Gaelic

Ar n-Athair, a tha air neamh,

gum bu naomh a bhios t’ainm ;

gun tigeadh do rioghachd,

gun deanar do thoil air talamh

mar a thathas ga deanamh air neamh.

Thoir dhuinn an diugh ar n-aran lathail

math dhuinn ar fiachan,

mar a mhathas sinne do luchd ar fiach.

Agus na leig ann am buaireadh sinn.

Ach saor sinn bhon olc . Amen.

Amen.

PEACE

The peace of God, the peace of men,

The peace of Columba kindly.

The peace of Mary mild, the loving,

The peace of Christ, King of tenderness,

The peace of Christ, King of tenderness.

Be upon each window, upon each door.

Upon each hole that lets in light.

Upon the four corners of my house,

Upon the four corners of my bed.

Upon each thing my eye takes in,

Upon each thing my mouth takes in.

Upon my body that is of earth

And upon my soul that came from on high.
