Today's Scripture is suitable to use with Imaginative Contemplation
Stilling: Come into the presence of God and still yourself
Grace: Pray that we shall be filled with the utter fullness of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer Suggestion: Imagine you are in the Synagogue in Nazareth, you might be a friend, relative, official, disciple etc. How do you understand what Jesus says?
He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up.
As usual, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read.
The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him,
and unrolling the scroll, He found the place where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is on Me,
because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.
He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down.
And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
He began by saying to them,
“Today as you listen, this Scripture has been fulfilled.”
Conversation: Use Art as a way of prayer.
Finish with a final prayer such as the Lord's Prayer/Our Father
What might good news, freedom and a time of the Lord´s favour look like?
This week as we are praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit who is always creative. Why not try some creative activities.
Today you might like to try using Art as a way of prayer.
Allow yourself to be drawn into this experience with a trusting heart. Choose art materials as you wish and go to a place where you can pray. Offer the time to God. You might like to ask yourself what good news, freedom and a time of the Lord´s favour bring to mind for you. Then allow the colours, lines and shapes to arise in your imagination. Don`t judge your art work. Like your journal, this is YOUR space.
What do you notice?
What does your eye fall on?
Speak to God about your art work.
