Today's Scripture is suitable to use with Lectio Divina
Stilling: Come into the presence of God and still yourself
Grace: Pray that in these unprecedented times we share with joy God's mission of loving the world.
Three times I was beaten with rods by the Romans.
Once I was stoned by my enemies.
Three times I was shipwrecked.
I have spent a night and a day in the open sea.
On frequent journeys,
I faced dangers from rivers,
dangers from robbers,
dangers from my own people,
dangers from the Gentiles,
dangers in the city,
dangers in the open country,
dangers on the sea,
and dangers among false brothers;
labour and hardship, many sleepless nights,
hunger and thirst, often without food, cold, and lacking clothing.
Not to mention other things, there is the daily pressure on me:
my care for all the churches.
Who is weak, and I am not weak?
Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?
If boasting is necessary, I will boast about my weaknesses.
The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is praised forever, knows I am not lying.
Conversation: Have a talk with Jesus about what has struck you during this meditation, does it have implications for your life and the mission you are called to fulfill?
Finish with a final prayer such as the Lord's Prayer/Our Father
Reflective Questions:
In our best efforts to follow the Lord, things often go amiss.
How have you experienced this?
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think that I am following your will
does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road
though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always
though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me,
and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
