Today's Scripture is most suitable to use with Imaginative Contemplation
Stilling: Come into the presence of God and still yourself
Grace: That called by the Risen Lord we will stretch and grow in joy, gratitude and a desire for self giving love.
Prayer Suggestion: You may imagine yourself as Peter, Jesus or maybe one of the other followers of Jesus listening in.
When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”
“Feed My lambs,” He told him.
A second time He asked him, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”
“Shepherd My sheep,” He told him.
He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?”
He said, “Lord, You know everything! You know that I love You.”
“Feed My sheep,” Jesus said.
“I assure you: When you were young, you would tie your belt and walk wherever you wanted. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will tie you and carry you where you don’t want to go.”
He said this to signify by what kind of death he would glorify God.
After saying this, He told him, “Follow Me!”
Conversation: Imagine yourself walking with Jesus along the shore. What might be the question Jesus would ask you today? How would you reply?
Finish with a final prayer such as the Lord's Prayer/Our Father
Whenever we yearn to make a fresh start in our relationship with God,
the place to begin is with the realisation that the desire is, of itself God´s work.
God chalks the starting line just where we are.
All your love, your stretching out, your hope, your thirst,
God is creating in you so that he may fill you.
It is not your desire that makes it happen, but his.
He longs through your heart……
In your prayer God is seeking you and himself creating the prayer;
he is on the inside of the longing…….
God´s longing for us is the spring of our for him.
