Today's prayer is suitable for a prayerful reading - Lectio Divina.
Stilling: quieten and take a time for preparation - come into the presence of God.
Grace: At this time of need: to be open, to be touched, and to be formed by God who IS love and compassion.
Prayer Suggestion: Perhaps try singing this psalm and letting the response a word or phrase become a mantra that you carry through the day.
A prayer of an afflicted person who is weak and pours out a lament before the Lord
Lord, hear my prayer; let my cry for help come before You.
Do not hide Your face from me in my day of trouble.
Listen closely to me; answer me quickly when I call.
For my days vanish like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace.
My heart is afflicted, withered like grass; I even forget to eat my food.
Because of the sound of my groaning, my flesh sticks to my bones.
I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins.
I stay awake; I am like a solitary bird on a roof.
My enemies taunt me all day long; they ridicule and curse me.
I eat ashes like bread and mingle my drinks with tears
because of Your indignation and wrath;
for You have picked me up and thrown me aside.
My days are like a lengthening shadow, and I wither away like grass.
But You, Lord, are enthroned forever; Your fame endures to all generations.
You will rise up and have compassion on Zion,
for it is time to show favour to her— the appointed time has come.
For Your servants take delight in its stones and favour its dust.
Then the nations will fear the name of Yahweh,
and all the kings of the earth Your glory,
for the Lord will rebuild Zion;
He will appear in His glory.
He will pay attention to the prayer of the destitute
and will not despise their prayer.
Conversation: Have a talk with Jesus about what has struck you during this meditation.
Finish with a final prayer such as the Lord's Prayer/Our Father
So let me ask you: Are there moments when you place yourself quietly in the Lord’s presence, when you calmly spend time with him, when you bask in his gaze?
Do you let his fire inflame your heart?
Unless you let him warm you more and more with his love and tenderness, you will not catch fire. How will you then be able to set the hearts of others on fire by your words and witness?
If, gazing on the face of Christ, you feel unable to let yourself be healed and transformed, then enter into the Lord’s heart, into his wounds, for that is the abode of divine mercy.
