GEGs, or Google Educator Groups, are communities of educators who share, inspire and empower each other to meet the needs of students through technology solutions, both in the classroom and beyond. Google believes that the best inspiration to educators are other educators. It is for this reason that Google helped start the GEG community and GEGs are run independently of Google by educators, for educators.

GEG activities take place both online and offline. Online GEGs provide a space for educators to discuss together and learn about one another; offline, the locally run events or meetups are then a way to learn and share face to face.

At GEG meetups you will physically come together with other educators who are interested and passionate about discovering new ways to meet the needs of students by leveraging innovative technology solutions. You might hear an expert sharing knowledge and experience about how to use a certain technology for education, or maybe you begin to share your own ideas and build relationships with other passionate educators, or you are actively working together on a technology and education project, etc. How a GEG meetup is run is totally up to the organizing group and it could take a number of different forms.

If you’re ready to take it even higher, you can become one of the GEG leaders preparing all the fun for your GEG and its participants. You are a visionary educator who is excited about the benefits of open technology in learning. You are already experimenting with new ways to use technology in the classroom and inspiring others to collaborate and share. If this is you, you may be a good GEG leader. If you’re interested in being a GEG leader of an existing group, reach out to the current leader and let them know you want to help. If you want to start a new GEG, reach out to an existing GEG leader in your country, or a GEG partner, and they can nominate you to start a new group.
