Success Stories of SSIP
Government Engineering College (GEC), Dahod proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of its alumnus and startup founder Samoil Mustafabhai Chunawala, who has been honored with the prestigious GTU Venture i2i² Award 2026 on date 14/02/2026 at Gujarat Technological University (GTU). The award was conferred by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Rajul Gajjar, recognizing outstanding innovation and entrepreneurial excellence. Out of 80 competitive startup applicants, only 10 ventures were selected for this distinguished recognition, making this achievement a truly proud moment for GEC Dahod and the entire Dahod city student community.
Samoil began his entrepreneurial journey in 2022 with a strong vision to develop an innovative renewable energy product — Solar Tile. What started as an idea gradually transformed into a structured innovation project through continuous experimentation, technical refinement, and unwavering determination.
A crucial pillar behind this success has been the constant mentorship, availability, and belief of Dr. Nirav Umravia, who consistently supported Samoil’s vision from its early conceptual stage. Dr. Umravia not only provided academic and technical guidance but also instilled confidence and entrepreneurial thinking in the student. His strong belief in nurturing innovation at the grassroots level enabled Samoil to convert challenges into opportunities. His open-door mentorship approach and hands-on involvement played a defining role in shaping the startup’s direction.
With the support of the SSIP 2.0 (Student Startup and Innovation Policy) grant provided through Government Engineering College, Dahod, Samoil successfully developed the Proof of Concept (PoC) of Solar Tile by 2025. The institutional ecosystem, laboratory facilities, and structured mentoring framework significantly strengthened the product’s technical feasibility.
Following the successful PoC stage, the project progressed to the renowned innovation ecosystem at iHub Gujarat, Ahmedabad, where the startup secured additional grant funding and strategic support for product development and commercialization.
Currently, the Solar Tile innovation holds one granted patent, and two additional patents are in the pipeline, being filed with continued support from SSIP 2.0 and Government Engineering College, Dahod. This intellectual property milestone reflects the originality and scalability of the innovation.
The startup team also includes:
Krish Lalibhai Parmar (Currently Enrolled Student)
Taher Akilbhai Bhatia (Team Member)
Together, the team has worked relentlessly on product design, testing, and market validation.
Further strengthening its entrepreneurial foundation, the startup is now part of a startup acceleration program conducted by Build3 in Goa, in collaboration with iHub Gujarat. This platform is providing national-level exposure, strategic mentoring, and investor connectivity to scale the venture further.
The GTU Venture i2i² (Idea to Innovation to Impact) category specifically recognizes high-potential startups emerging from academic institutions that demonstrate technological innovation, patent strength, and commercialization viability. Receiving this award validates not only the technical excellence of Solar Tile but also its potential societal and environmental impact in the renewable energy sector.
