Throughout the season, we held information sessions in our community and attended STEM events at schools
At these sessions we:
Educated the community about FIRST
Shared our love for FIRST
Demoed our robot
Shared our previous experiences
Answered questions
Inspired students to participate in FIRST
Our team provided funding to other first teams to assist them with their registration process
We helped:
FLL Explore team 3M Robot Builders #29225
FTC team Robotic Warriors #23848
We also provided them with parts to help them get their season started!
After meeting over 175 people interested in joining FIRST, we were able to start 7 new First teams!
2 FTC Teams
Robotanicals #22377
Robotic Warriors #23848
2 FLL Teams
Artobots #61742
Fantastic Bots #60207
3 FLL Explore Teams
3M Robot Builders #29225
Orioles #30042
Renegade Raiders #28830
Helped Robotanicals (FTC) with their intake and outtake system design, as well as getting started with their code
Met with Robotic Warriors (FTC) to give them input on their design and portfolio
Guided Artobots (FLL) with game strategy, and ways they can complete missions using various attachments
Helped Fantastic Bots (FLL) on their project idea, how to present themselves to the judges, and their code
Helped Renegade Raiders (FLL Explore) to start their season, and brainstorm ideas for their build
Talked to 3M Robot Builders (FLL Explore) to teach them about FLL & FTC to inspire them to continue participating in FIRST
Assisting Orioles (FLL Explore) in starting their season, and collaborating on generating creative ideas for their build
Met with North Bethesda Phoenixes (FTC) to tell them about how we organize our work through the season
We went to Beer n Bots; an event where STEM professionals displayed their creative innovations. While we were there, we:
Demoed our robot to the attendees & answered questions regarding our robot & FIRST
Got the contact information of people who were interested in learning more about FIRST
Connected with STEM professionals, such as the CEO of Arnold Packaging, Mick Arnold
American Bully Manufacturing
Stanley Black and Decker Lab
Zentech
ADCI
We connected with several other FTC teams by attending and hosting scrimmages
Were able to work on our game strategy and drive team connections
We connected with over 12 teams this way!
We attended Women in Manufacturing, run by RMI. We listened to speeches from Women in STEM about their journeys. Met the Lieutenant Governor of MD, Aruna Miller. Connect with professionals and acquired opportunities to tour their facilities
Over the summer, we attended the NAC. At this event we advocated for Title 4 funding in schools, met people in FIRST from all across the nation, heard from the CEO of FIRST and REV, and demoed our robot to FIRST Teams and government officials!
We learned how to communicate and advocate effectively, and that STEM funding can have a positive impact on student’s futures.
During the season, we visited middle and elementary schools to showcase our robot and ignite children's enthusiasm for STEM.
We demonstrated our robot at:
The Mount View Middle School STEAM night
The Piney Ridge Science Fair
The Bushy Park STEM Night
At these events we connected with people who were interested in the FIRST program, so we could help them get started on their journey in FIRST!
At a season kickoff we attended, held by PIE3, we held a workshop on 3D printing.
At this workshop we:
Taught people about the benefits of creating custom parts using 3D printers
Explained the process of actually 3D printing something
Introduced the participants to different types of printers
Described how we used custom parts on our robot last season
This season we hosted STEM sessions where we had multiple fun activities to stimulate an interest in STEM in younger kids. We held activities such as a paper airplane building contest, a Lego building station, and kids had the opportunity to drive our robot, etc.
We gathered contact information to help parents and kids start their FIRST journey!
When we volunteered at the FLL Chesapeake Regionals, we:
Talked to FLL Teams about FTC, to encourage them to continue participating in FIRST
We volunteered at the DC 1 FTC Qualifier where we:
Saw potential game strategies
Answered questions we had about the rules of the game
Brainstormed ideas for future improvements that could be made to our robot
What a fun first qualifier! We are very happy to be the recipients of the 3rd place Motivate Award, 2nd place Control Award, and 1st place Inspire Award! Additionally, we were on the winning alliance, alongside Orca Robotics 21587 and Stick-Shift 11804!
Another successful competition! We are proud to have been on the winning alliance alongside RoboLords 11112 and Profoun Pythons 21929, and the recipients of the 1st place Innovate Award!
