GCSE Art, Craft and Design
GCSE Art, Craft and Design is a broad based course that provides flexibility in content and approach. Learners will explore practical techniques and the work of other artists through a range of 2D and 3D processes and media throughout their investigations. For example, learners may explore painting, printmaking, photography and sculpting with clay. The final piece of their exploratory work can be in 2D or in 3D media. Studying Art and Design provides entry to an unprecedented range of specialisms, skills – both traditional and digital – and careers.
How will I be assessed?
There are two components at GCSE:
Component 1 – Portfolio (60% of the qualification). This is completed throughout Year 10 and Term 1 only of Year 11.
Component 2 – Externally Set Assignment (40% of the qualification). This is completed in Term 2 Year 11, with learners completing a final piece in exam conditions over two days at the end of term.
