The transition from Year 9 to Year 10 is an important life transition.
"Effective interventions delivered during transition periods can have long lasting positive effects" (Gottfredson and Hussong, 2011).
At Archbishop McGrath, we aim to ensure that for each child the transition from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 is as smooth and stress free as possible.

Details of the management and coordination of learners from Year 9 into Year 10- step by step details:
(This may be subject to change, if circumstances affect the school term)
Step 1: Free Choice Process
The Options Process will be introduced to all Year 9 pupils in an assembly led by Miss Edwards and Mr Davies and the 'Free Choice Option Form' goes live.
You will be asked to select 3 options and 1 reserve option from a list of available subjects. This is not your final choice of options. The purpose of this is to help the school place the subjects into option blocks that suit the most pupils.
From this, you will then receive the first draft of proposed option blocks.
You will get to experience the range of subjects on offer in the Year 9 Options and Parents Evening on 30th January 2025.
Step 2: Final Option Choice Form
You will be asked to select 3 options again. This time you must select 1 option from each option block (A, B and C). You may find that some of the subjects that you wish to take are in the same column and you may have to consider alternative subjects.
Both of these forms will be completed online using Microsoft forms. They can be completed on any device.
Once choices have been made, you will have the opportunity to experience some subjects in the form of taster sessions in the summer term and have 'Career Choice' conversations with Miss Edwards.
