On 22 August 1970, authorisation was granted for the start of aeronautical activities at the private aerodrome of El Berriel (Gran Canaria). Since then, 52 years of uninterrupted general aviation operation have passed, and it is currently an authorised airfield for restricted use, apt for private, training and tourist flights, as well as ground maintenance.
Over the last few years, the aerodrome has undergone a substantial improvement, becoming a base for the most important aeronautical training and aerial work operators in the Canary Islands. Currently, new projects are being developed with the aim of becoming an international benchmark aerodrome, as a bridge between two continents: Europe and Africa.
