The Drill Team (DT) will consist of up to 20 horse and rider partners. The team will perform at all possible Rodeo Committee events and other events as invited, participate in any available competitions and local parades, culminating in one major performance series each year – the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo.
Leaders: Kim Davis and Dawn Potchebski
Riders: 12-20 (8-16 core) experienced riders as young as 14 (younger on a case-by-case scenario) with the ability to ride at a walk, trot and lope comfortably. Riders must provide their own horse ad tack. Participants will sign an intent to participate acknowledgement.
Horses: Rider-owned with a current negative coggins always on file, the horses will ideally have an even temperament, who are not easily excitable, and shall be cooperative and not likely to buck, bite or kick. Horses that are deemed uncooperative or unsafe by leaders will not perform or practice.
In-person scheduled practices will take place at least once per week. Location will vary depending on weather, but could include the Jack Brooks Park covered arena, Faith Slaydek outdoor arena, the adjacent fields, the adjacent parking lot, Runge covered arena or outdoor arena, or the Saltgrass Cowboy Church arena. Video conference meetings will take place once per week to review written training documents (e.g., patterns), to answer questions and to promote camaraderie. Riders will be assigned homework and individual/group practice and will be expected to attend riding and virtual practices prepared to participate, learn, and perform.

Music and patters will be provided by the committee as chosen by the leaders, with input from the riders. Patterns will begin with basic patterns and movements, gradually increasing in complexity.
