We don’t know how fast the universe is expanding. Is it a crisis? | Science News
Measurements of the Hubble constant don’t line up. Scientists debate what that means.
Debate intensifies over speed of expanding universe
New methods of measuring Hubble constant are suggesting a “crisis” in cosmology
New Measurement of Hubble Constant Adds to Cosmic Mystery
New measurements of the rate of expansion of the universe, led by astronomers at the University of California, Davis, add to a growing mystery: Estimates of a fundamental constant made with different methods keep giving different results. “There’s a lot of excitement, a lot of mystification and from my point of view it’s a lot of fun,” said Chris Fassnacht, professor of physics at UC Davis and a member of the international SHARP/H0LICOW collaboration, which made the measurement using the W.M. Keck telescopes in Hawaii.
The universe 'is expanding FASTER than expected'
Physicists Geoff Chen and Chris Fassnacht of the University of California, Davis and their colleagues took measurements of three gravitationally-lensed bright galaxies called quasars.
More Evidence That Our Model Of The Universe Is Broken
To understand the cosmos we rely on models, and these models are constantly being refined using new observations and theories. Over the last few years, it
The universe is expanding faster than scientists thought, a study confirms — a 'crisis in cosmology' that could require a 'new physics'
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and new mirror technology confirmed a mystery that could lead to a "new physics," one astrophysicist said.
H0LiCOW: Cosmoboffins still have no idea why universe seems to be expanding more rapidly than expected
