I believe in working with students toward a successful outcome. As a first generation college student, I understand how balancing work, family and school can deplete our energy. Yet, as a freshman level course, we are expected to develop our scholastic abilities and learn how to enhance our academic performance.

Orientation (Available before Week 1): The goal of this unit is to get to know the class and to understand the fundamentals of Ethnic Studies.
Unit 1 WHY (Week 2 & 3): Lay the groundwork for your cultural awakening as you delve into the captivating origins and core concepts of Ethnic Studies. Uncover the hidden struggles that birthed this transformative field and explore the lenses of race, ethnicity, and intersectionality. Unit 2 Core Disciplines (Week 4-5): Immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of America's diverse communities. Journey through the heart of Africana/African American/Black Studies, American Indian/Native American Studies, Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, and Chicanx and Latinx Studies. Unearth the unique histories, cultures, and contemporary challenges that shape each discipline, and witness the power of resilience in the face of adversity.
Unit 3 NOW WHAT (Week 6-7): Unleash your inner activist as you explore the electrifying world of social justice movements. From the Civil Rights era to modern-day struggles for environmental, racial, and gender equity, you'll discover the transformative power of resistance and solidarity. Arm yourself with the tools to dismantle oppression and forge a path towards a more just and equitable future.
Week 8 Final Student Self Evaluation (Week 8): Students are enabled to reflect back on their academic performance throughout the session. Students will advocate for their grade.
