Middle and High School Lessons
June, July, August 2024
A combined class of all youth will be studying from this unit
Beginning in June, children will start a 6 month walk through the Bible using a series called “The Greatest Story” Part 1: The Old Testament, will look at the overarching story of the Bible by walking through the Old Testament where God spoke to His people through prophets and priests and Kings, and sometimes directly. This unit ends at the beginning of the New Testament, where we see things being put in place for God to speak again, and where we get a hint of how God was coming into the world.

In the month of June, children will see that the Bible is one big story about God rescuing His people and then will see how the stories of creation, the fall and Noah all help to move that story forward.

In the month of July continuing with the Old Testament, children will continue to follow the story of God’s redemption from Abraham through the Exodus. These lessons will help young children see the greatness of God and the way He works all things according to His plan.

In the month of August, continuing with the Old Testament, children will learn what it was like for God’s people in the Old Testament from the time they entered the promised land until the time of Jesus’ birth. They’ll see how God’s people had highs and lows as they sometimes obeyed, but more often forgot about God and turned their back on Him, but will be reminded that through it all there were those hopefully waiting for the Messiah.

I Corinthians 10:31
When you start living for God instead of for yourself, it changes everything. You might think that if you decide to follow Jesus, then you can’t do anything that you used to do. And there may be some things in your life that God doesn’t want you to do at all, but for many things, it’s just a matter of doing them for God instead of for yourself.
When we live for ourselves, there’s very little meaning in our lives. But when you decide that, whatever you do, you will do it for God, your life will have new purpose, meaning, and direction. Changing why we do what we do (from doing things for our own selves to doing them for God), will automatically change both what we do and how we do it. And it’s so important that we are building a deeper and deeper relationship with God, because the more we know who God is and what He wants, the better we can live our lives in Jesus’ name.

I Corinthians 13:4
If we’re not being kind, we’re not being loving. And, without love, we’re nothing. Sometimes we feel like it doesn’t matter how we talk to people so long as we’re telling them the truth. It’s important to tell the truth and stand up for what’s right. But we’re supposed to speak the truth in love, and love is kind!
Douglas used to think that it was a good idea to be mean to people, so long as he was telling the truth. For example, when his grandma asked if he would like some of the cranberry sauce she made, he told her, “No, thank you, it’s disgusting.” That’s not how we should treat people at all! We should do everything in our power to be kind with our words and actions. That doesn’t mean that we should lie to people, but just because something is true doesn’t mean that it’s good or kind. When Douglas was asked if he wanted cranberry sauce, he could have just said, “No, thank you” and been done with it. We need to remember how important love is in every aspect of our lives and do our best to love the way God loves. Love is kind.

A combined class of all youth will be studying from this unit Why Easter?
Why Easter? is a 5 lesson series on the final days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. The lessons will teach children the hope of Christ's resurrection. "Why Easter?" Through familiar Bible stories, children will see various aspects of the work Jesus did on the cross on the behalf of His people and understand more the importance of Easter.
