THE ONLY STUPID QUESTION IS ONE YOU DON'T ASK- PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS.
How can I market my foster dog for adoption?
Send us more information about your foster dog!
Text: photos & information and/or email: videos.
We can add this important information to their online profile to help potential adopters learn more about them hopefully sparking an interest in wanting to meet them.
Fill out our weekly check-in forms.
We will send you a link to these forms through text after each week you have fostered.
Schedule a Market Meetup or come to an adoption event.
A Market Meetup is a time where you bring your foster dog to the shelter in the morning and leave them here to be featured during walk-in hours all day. If they are not adopted that day you can pick them up that evening to continue fostering. This is mandatory once your foster dog has been in your home for one month, and must be scheduled at least once a month from then on. You are also able to drop them off for multiple days being featured.
Sometimes we host off-site adoption events like our Petco events, or if we have on-site adoption events at the shelter. If you are invited as a foster, this can take the place of your monthly Market Meetup and may be a great opportunity for your foster to gain exposure.
Post your foster on your social media account(s).
This is a simple way to help your foster gain lots of attention!
Take your foster dog for walks in public (dog friendly) places, like walking trails or downtown.
We can provide a harness vest that says "Adopt Me!" for your foster dog to wear on their adventures! Just stop by the shelter during open hours to get one.
What to do when the foster team sends you an adoption inquiry:
Contact the interested person (text is most common) within 48 hours of receiving the inquiry.
Answer any questions they may have and ask any questions you might have for them.
Schedule a meet & greet with the interested person.
Keep the foster team in the loop, let us know how it goes!
What to do when someone wants to adopt your foster dog:
Keep the foster team in the loop about any meet & greets and potential adoptions. The foster dog can be adopted from a meet & greet.
If the dog is on any medications, be sure to bring those to the meeting so you can hand it off to the adopters.
Have the adopters fill out the adoption contract from your foster packet. Once they fill out this form, they are good to take the dog!
They can either scan the QR code (or click the link above) to send us a digital copy or they can fill out the paper copy and you can send us photos of the completed form.
Make sure this is only filled out IF they are taking the dog that same day.
Let the foster team know who will be adopting the dog so we know to be on the lookout for the form.
**If the dog is not yet spayed/neutered you can either keep the dog until their appointment, or if you trust the adopter will bring the dog back for the appointment you can proceed with the handoff and give them instructions for spay/neuter.**
Remember, the most important thing is that your heartworm positive foster dog must stay indoors with exceptions for short leash walks to go potty. They must stay calmer than the average pup in order to help protect their health.
You should have been send home with medication called Doxycycline. Please follow the instructions on the prescription bottle. If you did not get the medication, text us at 864-467-3985.
You should've been sent home with up to (3) Tri-Heart Plus heartworm prevention pills and you should have the date(s) of when to give the medication each month. If you do not have this, please text us.
You are required to attend a heartworm consult. We do our consults over Zoom. As soon as possible, schedule your zoom call. Here is the link: CLICK HERE
There are two days/time choices. Tuesday consults are from 4:15pm-5:00pm and Friday consults are from 9:00am-9:45am. Both days are with Dee Owens (Heart worm Assistant). If you absolutely cannot make the zoom call, please call Dee Owens right away. (864.467.3982)
AFTER YOUR ZOOM CONSULT IS COMPLETED - You will receive an email link to view and electronically sign the heartworm consult paperwork. Check your email for the link and complete the document (a google form).
The email will come from geowens@greenvillecounty.org . Please check your spam folder for this link if you do not see it in your inbox. You MUST electronically sign each question and then submit back. If you are unable to locate this email, please call Dee Owens right away.
