Cybercriminals are using the global soccer tournament to grab personal data from soccer fans. 11,000 phishing emails have been detected, between Aug. 15 and Oct. 15 of 2021 (Kaspersky). Emails that contain scam invites that propose contracts to supply goods and services for the World Cup as a strategy that's not typical of sports-related fraud. Researches found that these phishing emails carried malicious attachments that asked users to provide their personal information to collect login credentials and other data. Other emails claimed that the recipient has been chosen to participated in a giveaway. "legitimate companies will never contact you out of the blue and ask for personal information like credit card details or your Social Security number" (Fowler).
Military veterans are at risk of being targeted by scammers. Eggleston states that "scammers often use military jargon and specific government guidelines to craft an effective pitch to steal money from military members and veterans." The reported top scams include donating to fake veteran charities, Paying for updated personal military records, and Benefit Buyouts. According to a new AARP repport, 4 out of 5 military/veteran adults were targeted by scams directly related to their military service or the benefits they receive. Ways to reduce getting scam is by creating stron passwords, signing up for the National Do Not Call Registry and using a call-blocking service, placing a free security freeze on credit reports, and having in mind that veterans will never have to pay for their service records or earned benefits.

Also, recipients received offers of Squid Game Halloween costumes, but this phishing emails were created to steal peoples credit card information. The malware creates a hidden shortcut that could be used to launch the malware each time victims start up their system (Kaspersky).

Sometimes is hard to differentiate emails with scams and is so easy to be treacked, since the emails look real. There is so many diferent types of cybersecurity attacks, that is why it is importat to learn how to protect ourselves. This type of incidents can be preventable if we are well oriented about them.
