Description: Explore and collect global communities and availability of technology.
Introduction
The reason why I choose Ecuador for my research project is because I grew up in there. I think it will be interesting to know more facts about this country. Things that my family who live in Ecuador probably know but I don't because I moved to the United States when I was 9 years old. Whenever, I go back to Ecuador I want to visit my family, but I also want to go as a tourist. I know this is a beatiful country full of amazing places to visit. I love the fact that Ecuador has 4 different geographic regions in one country; The pacific Coast, Galapagos Island, Amazon Jungle, and Andes mountains.
Population: Ecuador's capital city of Quito has a population of about 2 million. Overall Ecuador has a population of 18,025,936.
Demographics: Ecuador's terrain includes the Andes mountains, Amazon basin, coastal lowlands, and Galapagos Islands.
Languages Spoken: Spanish is the official language, with dialectical differences between the coastal and mountain regions.
Climate: Most of Ecuador has mild temperatures year-round. In the highlands of the Andes, the temperatures are usually cooler. The average temperature in Quito is in the mid-60s Fahrenheit (17 – 18 degrees Celsius).
Coastal cities, like Guayaquil, have a warmer, tropical climate, and the temperature varies from the low 70s to high 80s (20 – 30 degrees Celsius).
The Oriente jungle is wet throughout the year, and experiences sudden, intense rainfall even during its dry season. It is also warm throughout the year.
The Galápagos Islands are warmer in the dry, sunny season, although the water around the island chain gets cooler during this period. If you plan on snorkeling, bring a wet suit.
Technology Usage: According to the Agency for the Regulation of Telecommunications (ARCOTEL), 66.18 percent of the country population had access to internet by December 2019.
Technology Culture: Socioeconomic and geographic disparities in internet access persist in Ecuador, though the government has introduced initiatives to reduce prices and narrow the gaps. Underserved zones are mostly in the Amazon region, but other areas lacking infrastructure include the southern mountains and coastline, as well as the Galapagos Islands.
Location’s digital divide: The are more access to technology in urban places like the coast.
I learned so many new thigs about Ecuador and Afghanistan by doing this project. Comparing the two countries was interesting because I got to see the difference in population, demographics, climate, and use of technology. I enjoyed doing this project.
