Here are more fun activity ideas after listening to our readings! Use parent judgment to help your child with the activities that best fit their personal skill level!

Activities for Grades K-2

-Raise your hand or stand up when you hear any sight words in the story

-Draw a new cover for your book. Click here!

-Create a short RHYMING poem that relates to the story.

-Illustrate a picture to go along with your poem.

-Draw your favorite scene (favorite part) from the story. Click here.

-Draw a picture of your favorite character

-Pretend to be your favorite character and dress up like them for the day.

-Draw a character from the story and have a grown up help you write down character traits that describe the character around the picture you drew. (For example: kind, angry, proud, messy)

Activities for Grades 3-4

-Draw a new cover for your book. Click here!

-Create a short poem that relates to the story.

-Illustrate a picture to go along with your poem.

-Change/create your own ending to the story.

-Write a book review for a friend, include who you think should read it, and why they would enjoy it.

-Draw your favorite scene from the story. Click here.

-Use a phone, ipad or computer to record yourself comparing and contrasting 2 of the books. Now, play it back for your family! (If you don’t have access to these at home, you can compare and contrast the books by using markers, paper or a poster board!)

-Create a new setting for the story (Illustrate it on paper or a posterboard)

-Draw a picture of your favorite character

-Talk with a grown up about the lesson you learned from the story.

-Draw a character from the story and surround the image with character traits that describe your character. (Remember:Character traits are valued aspects of a person's behavior. Everyone has character traits, both good and bad, including our favorite fictional characters.)

-Identify the STORY ELEMENTS in the book. (A story has five basic but important elements. These five components are: the characters, the setting, the plot, the conflict, and the resolution.)

-Use a phone, ipad or computer to record yourself comparing and contrasting 2 of the books. Now, play it back for your family! (If you don’t have access to these at home, you can compare and contrast the books by using markers, paper or a poster board!)
