Presidency message
Hello Sisters,
As I am writing this at the end of August, the kids are returning to school and we are having a little bit cooler weather. I hope all of you have had a wonderful summer! We have now been serving in Relief Society for about 3 months. When I think about these few months, I am aware of how difficult life an be for some people. We all go through struggles from time to time. Sometimes they are struggles that everyone is aware of, and sometimes they are personal in nature and possibly no one knows what is going on in our heart.
I have a niece named Hannah who is serving a mission in Peru. She has been in Peru for a month now and it has been so hard for her. She has struggled with homesickness, fear, and culture shock. I know it is difficult for all missionaries but the decision about whether to go home or stay has weighed heavily on her mind.
In this week’s letter, she sounded a little more optimistic. She shared quotes from two talks that have helped her. The first was by Elder Neil Anderson in a talk called “The Triumph of Hope.” The quote is “As we strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ, we see beyond our struggles to the blessings and promises of eternity. Like a light whose brilliance grows, hope brightens the darkened world, and we see our glorious future.” Hannah said, “I love this because it reminded me that even in the most hopeless moments, there is ALWAYS hope.”
The second quote is from a talk by Elder Dieter Uchtdorf called, “He Will Place You on His Shoulders and Carry You Home.” Elder Uchtdorf said, “You may feel that your life is in ruins. You may have sinned. You may be afraid, angry, grieving, or tortured by doubt. But just as the Good Shepherd finds His lost sheep, if you will only lift up your heart to the Savior of the world, He will find you.”
I share my belief that these things are true and pray that you will feel the Lord helping and carrying you through your difficult struggles and that you will have hope.
We love you and pray for each of you.
