I received my engineering cord from the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center, and I am currently a senior at Chopticon High School. My uncle was a mechanic in the Army, and my father is a logistics management analyst for the US Navy. After earning my college degree in aeronautical engineering with a major in aerospace engineering, I was motivated by their military careers to seek a career in the US Air Force. Since I've always wanted to enlist in the military and serve my country, I think this career path makes sense and has personal significance for me. A fundamental principle of my upbringing and education has always been patriotism.
The courses I have completed that I believe will help me achieve my goals in engineering include Algebra I, Geometry, Engineering I and II, Algebra II, and Chemistry, with more advanced coursework to follow. The engineering program at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center has brought me closer to my ultimate goal of joining the United States Air Force as an officer, while also providing me with a strong foundation of core engineering experience. Through this program, I have gained valuable hands-on skills in areas such as CAD, SolidWorks, isometric drawing, soldering, machining, and other technical fields that will support my future profession. In addition, my involvement in the JROTC program at Chopticon High School has strengthened my leadership abilities and taught me how to work effectively as part of a team. Together, these experiences have not only prepared me academically and technically but also shaped the personal qualities necessary for success in both engineering and military service.
I take part in a number of extracurricular activities outside of school, such as cross country, track and field, and recreational soccer. Since there will always be people who run faster or have more endurance, these sports have taught me the importance of tenacity. I've learned from these experiences to prioritize resilience, self-improvement, and discipline—even in trying circumstances. Helping my uncle with his HVAC business has given me some work experience even though I haven't had a formal job yet. Even though my primary responsibility was that of an assistant, I was exposed to the duties of a professional workplace and learned the value of dependability and a strong work ethic.
Upon graduating in 2026, I plan on attending a four- year university to acquire a degree in aerospace engineering. After college, I intend to join the United States Air Force through the ROTC program. I have always felt a strong sense of patriotism and a desire to make a meaningful difference through military service. While I cannot yet know the exact impact I will have on the world, I aspire to leave a lasting effect as cast as my dreams. My main goal currently is to enroll in a university that offers both a strong aerospace engineering program and currently has an Air Force ROTC detachment. I recognize that plans may evolve over time as life presents new challenges and opportunities, but my commitment to pursuing both engineering and military service remains true. The foundation from the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center has been essential in preparing me for the path I am undertaking. The skills and values I have gained—Thanks to the guidance from my engineering teachers, Mr. Swick and Mr. Skinner—has shaped not only my academic growth but also my enthusiasm in overcoming struggles. Their mentorship has provided me with the tools and confidence needed to pursue my ambitions after high school and most likely beyond that.
Hopefully, after achieving my career goal in the United States military, I plan to continue serving others by contributing to the community in which I reside. This could range from helping neighbors with everyday needs to pursuing additional work opportunities that enable me to apply my skills beyond my primary career. I believe that the experience I will gain in the military—particularly as an officer in developmental engineering—will provide me with the discipline, leadership, and technical knowledge to succeed in the civilian world as well. My ultimate aspiration is to have a positive and lasting impact on those around me. Whether through creating innovative solutions that benefit many different families, assisting individuals in need, or simply improving my community, I am determined to make a meaningful difference. I am confident that with dedication and high enthusiasm, I will be able to utilize my education, military experience, and engineering background to create positive change for the betterment of humanity.
