Intellectual property is not an overarching theme in Gattaca. The film uses a minimalistic set design throughout the movie and does not feature any real-world logos, slogans, or trademarked material. However, an interesting argument could be made about whether someone's genetic information counts as their intellectual property. Should Gatacca be allowed to record DNA samples of all employees and subject them to forced testing? Should people be allowed to use another person's DNA to pretend to be someone else, as Vincent does daily? This can raise questions about who really owns a given person's genes. A strong argument can be made that one should have sole ownership and control over one's genetic information. However, this is not the case in Gatacca, where your genetic profile is public information and the deciding factor of your societal status.
