We will now be considering 2024 copyright books for the Gateway List that will be during the 2025-26 school year. That is, the committee will be reading this copyright year from the fall through the summer of the next year. The criteria for eligibility to be considered for the award is as follows:

1. Books must interest students in the grade level represented by the award.

2. Books must be written (and illustrated) by persons currently living in the United States. (If an author passes away after the book has been added to the Preliminary List, said book is still eligible.)

3. Books must be of literary value, which may enrich a reader’s personal life.

4. Books must be published two years prior to nomination on a Master List of Nominees.
