An accounting of gastrotrichs in temporary pools has never been done. Below are the gastrotrichs found in temporary pools. It is interesting to note the gastrotrichs are not seasonal. They can be found in the winter below the ice. Except where otherwise notes the photos are taken at 100X. The entire phylum of Gastrotriches has been largely ignored , at least in this part of the country. A study of a large preserve (Old Woman's Creek National Estuary in Erie County) that combined the research of 200 papers on the preserve found only one gastrotrich "One genus, Chaetonotus, has been identified in Old Woman Creek estuary.
