KC and Omaha - 2021

It was a wet trip to KC in midst of COVID-19. Though the hotel felt eerily empty, as usual you were right that it was good to get out of town and visit the WWI Memorial. Taking that virtual reality tour was something I'll never forget.

Among the many startling images and artifacts in the Auschwitz traveling museum, this one stood out most to me. This Franciscan priest volunteered to be starved to death in place of another man who was caught trying to escape. After three weeks he didn't die. So they gave me a lethal injection. You can read his story and see the rest of the pictures from that Union Station traveling museum here.

I know in some ways it seemed like kind of a lame exhibit, but I really enjoyed seeing the Sistine Chapel in Omaha. Hopefully we'll be able to see the real thing some day! I loaded all the pictures from that trip in this Kansas City and Omaha album.

I love this painting from Vincent Van Gough the Dutch master (not to be confused with Elaine's Vincent from Vincent's Picks) as it captures one aspect of what I love about you, the joy and inspiration of the quiet everyday life. This was from the Nelson-Atkins museum. See all the pictures from that museum here, and all the pictures of the Josyln Museum here. I'm so glad you urged us to take the time to visit. The Joslyn is closing for two years for renovations.
