Global Learning Experience

I had the opportunity to attend a Global Learning Experience in Fremont. Through this experience, I got to learn first hand about how Habitat for Humanity serves the Bay Area community. For two days, my peers and I had the opportunity to help build new homes for families that qualify for housing from Habitat for Humanity.

During this Global Learning Experience, I was also exposed to the Islamic and Muslim culture. We visited ILM Academy, an Islamic private school that teaches kindergartners up to eighth graders. The student body of ILM gave us tours of their school and informed us of the cultural topics they learn. Their faculty and students brought in Pakistani cuisine for us to try. To end the trip to their school, they showed us the mosque and we were invited to sit in during one of their prayers. We were taught that they enter the mosque on the right foot and face Mecca while they pray. This experience was very informative and interesting. I also was able to get an understanding about how welcoming the Islamic and Muslim community is through visiting ILM Academy.
