Engineering Waves for a Smarter, Safer Future
Engineering Waves for a Smarter, Safer Future
Welcome to My Research
Imagine harnessing the power of waves - sound, vibrations, or ultrasound - to protect structures, improve medical imaging, or enhance autonomous technologies. My research explores how mechanical waves travel through materials, from solids to fluids. By studying these waves across different scales, I aim to discover new ways to control them, either to prevent damage, amplify useful effects, or extract valuable information. Using a blend of mathematical modeling, finite element simulations, wave experiments, and cutting-edge machine learning, I develop innovative solutions for real-world challenges.
My research focus areas are -
Phononic Materials and Metamaterials: I design, analyze, and test advanced materials that control how elastic and acoustic waves move. Think of these materials as "wave guides" that can redirect or block vibrations and sound. By combining theoretical models, computer simulations, and experiments, I create materials for applications like protecting structures from vibrations and impact, reducing noise in vehicles, or guiding waves for next-generation sensors.
Ultrasound Perception: Inspired by how bats and dolphins use echolocation, I investigate how ultrasound waves can "see" inside environments. Using computational models, experiments, and machine learning, I develop techniques to analyze scattered sound waves. This work supports innovations in nondestructive testing (e.g., checking aircraft for cracks), sonar for underwater navigation, and perception systems for autonomous robots.
