Ways of Knowing

and Showing Learning

Base XP: 30

In English Studies 12, there are several different texts or forms of communication that you will get to interact with.

This means you will be reading, viewing AND creating many different things.

However, because this course is different, you will have much more choice in how you CHOOSE to represent your thinking.

When to use your Ways of Knowing and Showing Learning/Thinking:

  • When there is no defined format provided in the quest

  • When there is a format assigned in the quest, but you want to do it differently.

Some examples of ways to show your Learning/Thinking:

  • A written response or reflection, such as an essay, a short story, a detailed paragraph, an article, or a blog post.

  • An oral response, such as a speech, poem, play, oral story, or song.

  • A visual text, such as a poster, a photograph (or series), a mind-map, or other images.

  • A digital text, which includes electronic forms of all of the above.

  • A graphic organizer, such as a T-chart, flow-chart, mind-map, outline, or Venn diagram.

  • A combination of oral, written and/or visual elements, such as in a dramatic presentation, graphic novel, film, web page, advertisement, etc.

  • Something else that I haven’t even thought of yet...

YOUR TASK:

  1. List a selection of response types that you enjoy, that you’re strong at, or that you want to explore further. This list can be as long or as short as you like.

  2. Create a response that explains, in depth, why you have chosen these response types, and how they will allow you to demonstrate your learning/thinking in English 12 or how they will enhance your learning.

  3. Create a page in your "Quests" tab in the student notebook, and post your Recipe for Representation (or a link to it) there.

  4. Add a submission to the moodle dropbox telling me that your quest is ready for me to assess in the Notebook.
