My Town Visual Presentation

Base XP: 60

Learning Target(s):

  • Transform ideas and information to create original texts, using various genres, forms, structures, and styles

  • Use the conventions of Canadian spelling, grammar, and punctuation proficiently and as appropriate to the context

This quest builds upon information discussed in Visual Presentation Skills.

Task:

For this task, you’ll create a slide presentation that promotes life in your town. In other words, it will answer the question, “Why live in my town?”

You’ll use PowerPoint, Sway, Google Slides, or another similar presentation software. (Please avoid using Prezi for this task because it cannot effectively accomplish some of the techniques that are covered in the How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint video).

Your presentation should include 5 slides:

    1. Title Slide

    2. Body Slide (first main point)

    3. Body Slide (second main point)

    4. Body Slide (third main point)

    5. Concluding Slide

Your presentation may be larger to allow you to elaborate on your points, but it must contain at least these 5 elements. For example, you may decide to create a layout similar to this:

  1. Title Slide

  2. Hook slide

  3. Body Slide (first main point)

  4. Interesting quote

  5. Body Slide (second main point)

  6. Elaborate on second point

  7. Body Slide (third main point)

  8. Concluding Slide

You should demonstrate an understanding of the points covered in the video as well as those covered in the course up to this point. For example, if you find a bit of information on your city’s webpage, be sure to include a citation. This will be an exercise in finding the balance between information and aesthetics. If we focus too much on aesthetics, then the information is lost. However, if we focus too much on information, then our presentation will look dull.

Please submit your finished presentation HERE when it's ready for assessment, and let me know if you require additional XP :)
