The Mountain of SGaana

It is important for all Canadians to explore First Peoples' cultures and lived experiences in order to continue the work of Reconciliation.

For this assignment, you will be viewing a 10 minute documentary film, and exploring the symbolism, film-craft, and storytelling of a traditional Haida tale.

Task:

  • Actively view the film, making note of visual symbolism and exploration of Haida culture.
  • Some questions to consider might include:
      • How does the film contrast/connect past experiences with current reality for the protagonist?
      • What was your immediate reaction? What did you love? What was difficult?
      • Why is it important to include many voices in our Canadian literary "canon"? How can you connect this to Reconciliation in Canada?
      • Some questions I haven't thought of yet... What strikes you?
  • Reflect/Respond using your Recipe for Representation.
