The idea behind a badge in Gamified English 12 is to award extraordinary demonstration of skill or particular ability, and the image, name, and explanation should reflect this. Here are a few examples:

BADGE TITLE: The Credible Hulk

AWARDED FOR: citing sources accurately

FURTHER EXPLANATION: This badge hinges on the play-on-words between credible (meaning able to be believed, convincing) and incredible (unbelievable) in the commonly known allusion to the character The Incredible Hulk. Citation in English makes your arguments stronger and more believable, and is a strong skill to develop.

BADGE TITLE: Poetry Decoder

AWARDED FOR: Excellent in interpretation of poetry

FURTHER EXPLANATION: Poetry is tough. The language and figurative language can be difficult to decode, and requires a large amount of background knowledge to do well. The Poetry Decoder badge will be awarded to those who show a clear ability to communicate the meaning(s) of poetry, with support, and with reference to the text.

BADGE TITLE: Gel Pen Embellishment Award

AWARDED FOR: attention to detail, going above and beyond the expected for visual presentation, OR using descriptive language to "embellish" your writing

FURTHER EXPLANATION: We all know the people who take pride in their work - cross their 't's and dot their 'i's - maybe using a glitter rainbow gel pen to do so. These people go above and beyond to create fancy work. Gorgeous work. Sparkly fantastic amazing glittery work, literally or figuratively. This badge is for those people.
