Imagine cruising through the streets of a vibrant Mexican city, the roar of your high-performance car echoing off the walls as you weave through a landscape that shifts from lush rainforests to arid deserts, all without ever leaving your living room. This is the exhilarating experience that Forza Horizon 5 offers, pushing the boundaries of what a racing game can be. Forza Horizon 5 delivers exactly that with consistent exciting updates, a meticulously recreated version of Mexico, driving physics that rival racing simulators, and an outstanding selection of automobiles to choose from. Forza Horizon 5 sets a new standard for racing games and combines a seamless blend of arcade-style excitement and detailed simulation to become one of, if not, the greatest open-world racing game of all time.
Improvements/Additions
Constant improvements to a game are what players are looking for when they want to continue playing a game that they enjoy. Luckily, Forza Horizon 5 is no stranger to this phenomenon. After almost 3 years since the game’s release, developers have been releasing monthly updates, adding new map features, addition of new cars, map changes, new challenges to unlock new cars, and collaborations with real companies to bring new content to the game. In Forza Horizon 5, car packs are downloadable content (DLC) that expand the game's vehicle roster. Each pack typically includes a variety of cars, ranging from classic vehicles to modern supercars, allowing players to enhance their gaming experience with new rides. There have been several collaborations brought to the game, one of them being Hot Wheels, which added new cars to the game and a brand-new map featuring Hot Wheels’ iconic orange tracks filled with twists, turns, loops, and speed tracks. The most recent collaboration was with the sneaker brand “Jordan” which added custom 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Jordan Luka 3 "Motorsport" Edition to the game. Each monthly update includes 4 weeks of individual challenges that players must complete to earn new cars being added that week. There are also seasons that change based on the week of the month in-game which will change the scenery, texture of the map, and will add festive decorations aligning with real-world holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, Cinco de Mayo and more. Updates always bring excitement to the game, and it is apparent that the developers are always looking to improve and add on to the game to make it even better.
Playground Games has the developer of all the previous Forza Horizon games, and their goal for their 5th addition to the series was to create a game that was significantly larger than its predecessors. With Forza Horizon 5 having so many different types of possible driving styles, it was difficult to create a map that would satisfy millions of players’ expectations. That’s why this game has one of the best map layouts of any driving game. I also has the longest highway in any Forza Horizon game, and is 1.5x larger than the Forza Horizon 4 map. With the map being a condensed version of Mexico’s landscape, the world has lot of various biomes such as deserts, rainforests, plains, cities, and even a live volcano. Given that this is an open world game, players can drive on every square foot of the map and the cars’ drivability and traction will react differently depending on what type of terrain the car is driving on. Forza Horizon 5 has, arguably, the most diverse terrain of any game before, and the selection of Mexico was perfect for every style of driving.
With so many different terrains and conditions to simulate, developers had to improve the game’s physics to exceed players’ expectations. Though Forza Horizon 5 is running on the same physics engine, ForzaTech. that has been used for over a decade in past Forza Horizon games, it is still delivering a super realistic playing experience with the help of enhanced graphics. This game has driving physics second only to racing simulator games. It is very enjoyable to just cruise around the map in one of your dream cars and drive it like it has never been driven before. Driving and racing feels very realistic and is unmatched by other open-world racing games. Forza Horizon also focused on improving drifting mechanics for players since drifting was very popular in previous games despite the lack of attention from developers. The way the cars and trucks react to slippery roads, mud, gravel, sand, and snow is unique to each terrain type and is what makes Forza such a popular game. It has loads of variety and it never gets boring to play.
Forza Horizon 5’s collection of cars to choose from is always expanding as developers seek to meet popular demand and even surprise players with cars that turn out to be fan favorites or forgettable hunks of metal. The selection of cars in a racing game is arguably the most important part of a driving game. Other racing games such as Forza Motorsport 7, a game designed for racing cars around tracks from the real world, may have more cars, Forza Horizon 5 offers a broad selection of automobiles that players can drive anywhere their heart desires. The current number of cars available is 810 which is mind-blowing compared to other games. Around 300 were brought in through updates and car packs which ties in with the quality of the updates since the developers are always trying to add to the game and improve existing features. The Autoshow is the main market where players can purchase anything from cult classics of the 50’s and 60’s to the most technologically advanced race cars of all time, and there is a lot of variety in between. In addition to the Autoshow, there is an Auction House where players can buy cars from other players and put cars up for auction. Customization is also one thing that sets Forza Horizon 5 from other games as it has many body kits for many cars, customization for every part, and the most advanced livery studio which you can share with other players.
In conclusion, Forza Horizon 5 not only redefines the open-world racing genre but also exemplifies the pinnacle of interactive entertainment. Its extraordinary collection and diversity of cars and trucks to choose from, smooth and satisfying racing physics that satisfy any driving styles that players can dream of, a stunning recreation of Mexico and the inclusion of many different types of terrain, and the constant improvements and additions to the game make it a no-brainer when players seek a racing game with an exhilarating and relaxing experience at the same time.
