If a person were to ask me what the best game ever is I would say Fortnite, part of my answer would be my opinion but if you look at the facts it has taken the cake as one of the best. The game has multiple different games you can play within the game, they keep up with current and past trends, and they keep the game fresh with consistent updates, as well as its way to appeal to people of all ages.
Some games come out and what is on the game is all that is there, when you beat the game it is over. Other games add updates every few months to every year, while Fortnite adds new updates almost weekly. Every few weeks you are guaranteed something new in Fortnite. Fortnite introduced two new things to the gaming world, 'Seasons' and a 'Battle Pass' every 10 weeks a new season starts. With a new season, you can expect a lot, firstly the map undergoes new changes for example, this season has a Marvel theme so the game has 4 Marvel-themed locations, one of them being Dr.Dooms castle. Another thing you can expect is new weapons, some new some old and some will go along with the themes like the jetpacks or Tony Starks Rifle. Along with the major update every 10 weeks there also are minor updates constantly. Usually, these updates will add a new item or fix a new item because sometimes not every weapon works the way the game developers intend and to ensure the players are happy they will fix things that don't work. Lastly, there are always updates and rewards for Holidays and special days, right now it is Fortnite's 7th birthday so there are Birthday cakes you can eat all over the map and birthday rewards you can earn.
Something I believe is very important to video games is the setting, if the setting is boring or doesn't match the theme that is trying to be conveyed it will be harder for the game to thrive. Especially with an open-world game like Fortnite, the setting should vary depending on where you are on the map and what is going on in that area. For example, a couple of seasons ago they had a Greek God theme and added four new locations. Two of those places were in a desert and one was themed as Zues's kingdom and had many pillard buildings and statues, and it was called 'Mount Olympus'. The other place was called 'Brawlers Battleground' and it was themed like a place where as the name says people would go and fight. It had the same pillars and some of the same statues as Mount Olympus but everything was destroyed instead of nice and fancy. To me, this is a perfect example of making things the same but different so you never get bored of being on the map because there is so much diversity. Along with the desert I just talked about there are snow biomes with mountains, regular towns, cities, military bases, superhero bases, and even a hell-themed underworld. Along with the constant small changes to the map sometimes they will change the whole map you play on just to ensure players never get bored.
Fortnite offers so many different types of games you can play with 5 main modes and hundreds of others you can play. First, there is the base game Fortnite Battle Royal where you and 99 players all drop onto the island and fight until one person is standing, this is the game mode most people play and what got Fortnite famous. Then there is Save The World where you and 3 other people are put in a zombie-infested land and you have to defeat the zombies, restore power to the town, and save survivors. This game mode is probably played the least by players mostly because you have to pay for it, all other Fortnite games are completely free. Now more recently they added 3 completely new game modes for players. The first one is Lego Fortnite which is a lot like Minecraft. You load into a large world as a Lego character and are free to explore, gather Lego reasources, build loads of different buildngs, and fight off enimies. Next is Rocket Racing, in this you get to load into a Car and race against other players, you can drift, drive upsidedown, and knock other players off the map. There is many different maps you can race on and players can even make their own race tracks. Lastly there is Fortnite Festival and I would describe it as a Gutiar Hero knock off. That is not a bad thing though me and my girlfriend really enjoy playing it. Players can choose from hundreds of songs and choose what instrument they play. There also is 'Creative' games where there is literally hundreds of games to choose from, some combat, some world building, and many more different types of games. My girlfriend plays "Murder Mystery" where there is a Sherrif, Murderer, and the survivirs and the goal is to survive if you are the survivor, kill them if you are murderers, or kill the murderer if you are sheriff.
For some years now Fortnite has done so many different collaborations and I think this has helped keep the game as relevant as it is. It all started in season 4 when they did the first Marvel collaboration called the "Infinity Gauntlet" where players had a chance to turn into Thanos for a game. Then a few months later the Marshmello collaboration happened, this was the first ever in-game concert and collaboration skin. Players were able to buy the Marshmello DJ skin and attend a Marshmello concert, this was huge for Fortnite at the time and set them up for even more collaborations. There was another Marvel game that players agreed was the best one yet. It was called "Endgame" and players were able to become all the Avengers and Super Villians to fight against each other. Along with games themed around certain characters, they will also just make skins for certain characters or other things in the game to signify a certain character in pop culture. For example, when a dance blows up on TikTok Fortnite will collaborate with the artist that made the song and put the dance in the game. They collaborate with famous YouTubers and give them skins, famous singers like Ariana Grande have skin, Micheal Myers, and even The Terminator are in the game. There are so many more characters the list would be pages long. In my personal opinion, the way they can put so many different characters and brands in the game helps keep the game as successful as it is.
If I was to choose a game to be the best game of all time I would still choose Fortnite because of everything I have listed above. There is a game out there for everyone, the casual gamer, the competetive gamer, and everyone in between. With hundreds of games to play and hundreds of characters to be anyone who likes video games will like Fortnite. With its up beat vibe and vibrant colors it is an enjoyable experience for everyone, especially when you get your friends together and play.
