Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress and the Lazy Newb Pack are two completely independent programs. You don't need to "install" Dwarf Fortress in order to run the Lazy Newb Pack, and vice-versa. In both cases, however, the SDL and OpenGL libraries have to be installed previously.

How to "install" and run Dwarf Fortress in Lubuntu

Install the following libraries: sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian libsdl-image1.2 libglu1-mesa libsdl-ttf2.0-0
Download the Dwarf Fortress from http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
Untar: tar -xjf df_44_12_linux.tar.bz2
Go to the unpacked directory df_linux/
Run ./df

How to "install" the Lazy Newb Pack a.k.a. Starter Pack in Lubuntu

Install the following libraries: sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian libsdl-image1.2 libglu1-mesa libsdl-ttf2.0-0
Download the starter pack from http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13244
Untar
Go to the unpacked directory LinuxLNP-0.44.05-rc1/
Run ./startlnp
An error may appear stating that xterm is not installed: ./startlnp: 35: ./startlnp: xterm: not found (Screenshot 1)
A new window will pop up (Screenshot 2)
Click on 'Xcfe' button and select 'Custom command' from the drop down menu.
Type in lxterminal -e in the text box and click 'Ok' (Screenshot 3)

Change color scheme

The color scheme data is located in the colors.txt file, found in the Dwarf Fortress/data/init folder.
